Happy day before SuperBowl!
I just started my first class for the program! Glad to be a part of all this. :)
Question for all of you veterans here... anybody take the HCAD750 course? its the Healthcare informatics one. Wanted to know what you thought...
was it worth it, heavy workload?
any information would be great!
Thanks!

Regardless, no one here to my knowledge has taken it yet since the next session is the first time it will have been offered for MBA students. However, we do have ratings for the currently listed professor from RateMyProfessor and they are awful, though none of them are specifically for HCAD 750.

I plan on taking this class next semester because I'm going for the Data Analytics concentration but I don't know of anyone else here on the board that is. I'm going in knowing it will probably be a train wreck.

It's a bit worrisome that this is starting to be the norm rather than the exception.

DieDaily, what is the link to the MADM 701/ACCT701 study group? I can't seem to find it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

quote:Agreed. I REALLY hope since the class has already been part of the MHA, that it will be a well designed class. But the trend for "new" classes in the MBA program hasn't been stellar. Seems like every course needs at least a couple of sessions before they're halfway decent.

What’s their endgame with these new courses? Aren’t the existing ones sufficient for an MBA program? Curious to hear what others think of this.

I might do data analytics. That or finance I don't know. I am taking ECON next. I wanted to jump on that so I could be sure to get Shaughnessy. After that, its either FIN or data analytics.

I work in Higher Ed so I can safely speculate that their endgame is the endgame of all higher ed institutions….put more butts in seats, i.e. higher enrollments. Their price point, coupled with the LSU name brand is nearly unbeatable but to attract MORE students(increase enrollments) they realized they had to offer more specialties/concentrations. I wouldn't be surprised to see the specialty/concentrations grow even more over the next 12 months.

Nice assessment and I totally agree with what you said. I just hope as they continue to grow the program isn’t going to be diluted or devalued.

I was thinking the same thing! I really hope not as well.

ISDS 715 Project Mngmt classmates: Have y'all noticed that the syllabus shows that we are to have 7 weekly quizzes @ 70 points each, however the weekly schedule only shows a quiz the first 6 weeks and a final the 7th week? I emailed the professor about this last week but he has not responded to the last 2 emails that I have sent him.
Yes, I did notice as well and emailed him - along with a couple of other emails that an instructor should respond to. Glad to hear I am not the only one he ignores. I'll bite my tongue on his slide errors. How do you flat out ignore specific student questions?

MADM701-Knotts question/vent.
Anybody else struggle on the Module 3 exam? Definitely harder than the first 2. It really only focused on like 3 topics within those 70+ pages of reading Likely my own fault though as I had a lot going on this week and couldn't study throughout the week like I would have preferred. Hopefully I ace the writing assignments to make up for my exam performance. Oh well, on the the halfway point

MADM701 exam was definitely harder this week IMO. Should be interesting to see the average scores on this if she posts. Felt as prepared as possible going in and wound up missing 3.
Definitely was hoping more concepts would have been on it and less of digging for minor details from the same few concepts.

quote:I agree. This doesn't feel like a graduate level course. It's nothing but memorization and regurgitation of information. I couldn't tell you anything about this different theories right now. I'm literally "learning" the material for the exam and that's it

@Jeaux Cool & @AstroTiger, taking ISDS 702. Astro, the same thing happened to me the second week; made the worst grade I've made in the program by far. Felt like the generating the hypothesis with the ambiguous (IMO) wording of the problem was tough. I feel like Dr. Koksal glosses over some aspects that should be emphasized. I've attended the extra sessions, but to me, they are not really helpful.
I've been utilizing videos by Brandon Foltz on YouTube, and that guy is awesome. If you are having issues in the class, I highly recommend his videos. I have gone back to week 2's topics and have a much better understanding of the material. I also watched the videos for week 3's materials and made a B on that homework.
I'm not sure if anyone has tried to contact him via email, but I have attempted twice with no luck in responses.

MADM701 (knotts)
I didn't think the week 3 test was that much worse than last weeks.
Most of the problem is the horrible book and the lack of any lectures or ways to understand what is important about the information provided. This is the continued course design and teaching issues that keep coming up in this forum.
I enjoyed the survey and job redesign project this week. It was really interesting to think about what motivates people.

I agree. I haven't been able to make any of the sessions live, but I have watched and the questions being asked and discussed aren't the things that I am struggling with.
2nd graded homework I improved, but I'm still not confident in the hypotheses and the way he words the results questions. Super big question mark on the two exams is how there will be no calculations to be made at all.
