Um no.

The pro-tariff types are literally arguing to raise prices and limit the buying power of consumers (especially the middle class).
That is 100% false
As pointed out in this thread, if you buy into what SFP is selling, the United States was formed as a Socialist nation and remained so until FDR and his free trade saved us.

OK.. We put a tariff on avocados, for example... The seller charges the same price, but adds the tariff. The buyer pays more, because of the added tariff, and passes the cost to the consumer.
Who pays?
Depends on the structure of the tariff. With Trump's, he left a loophole that lowered the tariff if you put in a plant in the USA.
Also, try telling anybody in the middle class that Trump's tariffs hurt their pockets. They will laugh.

Noted. We will add you to the small list of idiots who doesn't believe tariffs raise prices to consumers.

A better example would be the steel and aluminum tariffs. You put those on while removing regulations holding back local production and then it’s win-win. The price remains stable for consumers while keeping those dollars inside our own economy turning over multiple times rather than being exported abroad.
Yep and protects American interest. Free Trade has resulted in redistribution of wealth and the relocation of jobs abroad.
Let's take China.... Should China decide to stop trading and go to war over Taiwan, The USA would be crippled in many ways. One of those is medications needed.
It's estimated that 97% is made in China and they could simply cut the USA off. Beijing could simply cut off shipments of antibiotics, cancer drugs and other meds.
And we did that to our selves.

I saw this in a thread over this topic. Basically it stated that when it comes down to it, People would rather pay a little bit more and have higher paying jobs than have to rely on assistance to pay a little less.
In the end, it's really about being beholden to foreign nations.
In the end, it's really about being beholden to foreign nations.

China would be crippled much more, though.

And we wouldn't buy Chinese goods, and they'd become one of the poorer nations on earth pretty quickly.

While creating much better jobs domestically that pay incredibly. Don't forget that.

Well that's an epic straw man.

I don't think the argument right now is a little more or a little less, its a lot more or a lot less.

This option is already available to consumers.

Trade isn't a one-way street.
We are still the richest, most powerful, and most economically advanced country on Earth. You don't think other countries are more beholden to us?
We can do anything China can do. It may take some time and there will be some growing pains in the interim, but we can do it. Nobody else (including China) can do what we do.
We can also find easy, readily-available alternatives to China.
There is no alternative option to the USA for the high-end of our output.

Will do.
We will get to see this play out in real time in the coming years.
We have Milei who has vowed to get rid of both import and export tariffs by 2025 and Trump who has vowed to put tariffs on all US imports if elected.
It is freedom and free markets versus protectionism and central planning.
Can't wait.

How much more did the consumers pay on daily used goods during Oranges mean tariffs?

Not a single person in my world was not making more than before Trump came into office while never feeling the effects of the big bad tariffs.

Already saw it play out under Trump.

Do not care what Milei has done or said.

Back to the ole USA was never a free nation until FDR and his policies. We were all just a bunch of little socialists.

Bet he brings out a "Free Trade Study" that shows it was EPIC!!! While we all know, we didn't.

No you haven't. You have not seen the effect of universal tariffs on all imports.

What is the point of a tariff if not to raise prices?
