My parents live in the north Houston area and had a roof leak during Harvey. My old man paid cash to have his roof replaced and his adjuster did not come until today. he also had some interior damage from the water leak

The adjuster who came today denied his claim on the roof because he or the roofing contractor did not take pictures before he replaced the roof. They do have pictures of the water coming into the house. Due to the higher deductible from a storm the adjuster said it would be a waste of time to make a claim on the interior damage. Oh and to add to it, she got on a ladder to inspect the new roof and said there was some old shingles still on the roof. She did not know a new shingle from an old one. My dad did get on the roof and the entire roof was replaced a few weeks ago

Does he have a leg to stand on to
Make a claim with out having pictures of the old roof? Who can he contract? Request another adjuster?

So what is he trying to claim?

Why didn't the contractor contact the insurance company during the the repair?

He is trying to get reimbursed for the roof repair. Not sure why he paid for it out if pocket. Not sure why the contractor didn't either.

Does he still have the contractor repair paper work? Did he provide that to the insurance company?

The policy says that the insurance has the right to inspect and that the insured has to show the damage. Neither has been provided by your father.

I'm sure he does have the paper work. Insurance company saying they have no proff the roof needed to be replaced. How about the water damage inside the house.

Does he have flood and/or hurricane insurance? IIRC, flooding is not covered under a standard homeowner's policy.

He does not have flood insurance. His interior damage was solely caused by a roof
Leak.

He certainly has a leg to stand on with the interior damage.
Get some estimates and see if it is worth filing a claim.
Roof situation sucks, but he handled it poorly.

With claims, document everything. Nowadays, pics are super simple to take. Shame on whichever shitty roofing company he used.

Unfortunately, never count on insurance to do what you think it should. Even though you pay plenty money to be "insured" it's a joke. Can't wait until I can be self insured.

Sounds like he needs to ask for a manager rather than that same adjuster

Roofs leak; sometimes that is from storm damage, sometimes it is from prolonged rains and winds where water blows through a vent, sometimes that is due to the roof design or poor workmanship on the prior install. Your dad and his roofer's actions prevented insurance from being able to property adjuster his claim, thus the denial. Even if there was legitimate storm damage to the roof, that damage could have require a repair and not a replacement.

well....they don't

you need to apply Murphy's Law to stuff like this and take every step to ensure you're insured.

You father made a poor choice in this matter. He should have either waited for the adjuster to come before he had the roof replaced or should have taken a bunch of photos if he wanted it done asap. The contractor should have also been aware and ask for an adjusters report if he was worth a shite. Now your company has no way of knowing what the damage was or if there even was damage to the roof.

Look at it from the company side. Everyone could just hurry up and replace their roof and claim it was damaged before anyone looked at it. There would be massive fraud.

The interior space like some has said should have a contractor give you a price to see if it is worth your deductible. Do not take the adjusters word for it. Also be careful bc water damage in a home can lead to mold, mildew etc which can get pretty expensive.
