11. Know the dealer’s “hold-back” price and what type of incentives that may be offered from the manufacturer or dealership.
Where do you find this?

Generally speaking, dealer holdback is approximately 2-3% of invoice price. To know the exact amount you need to see the actual invoice.

I have also wanted to know regarding rebates, let's say the lowest a dealer can sell is $500 above dealer cost. Assuming a $10,000 dealer cost would mean $10,500. If there was a $2,000 rebated, could you get the car for $8,500?

Yes, those figures are accurate in theory.

I do not know if all of these are correct, but it is a decent guide, regardless.

I am looking at a Certified 2012-13 Jeep Patriot/Compass for the kid. Have seen them between up to $16k. Whats a reasonable price for 1 of these?

Anyone heard of issues with these vehicles?

You guys are great. Thanks for all your help

Used cars don't have a set holdback.

There are other things like pack involved with used cars but they aren't standard across brands, typically just within the same dealership.

And a dealer isn't whipping out their cost structure sheets on their used cars for consumers.

Will or anybody that may be able to help. When there's a "special internet sale" how much lower or not at all do you think the price can go on a vehicle? They have this whole page long explanation on how they match continually changes prices, offer the lowest price available, etc. Is it all just rhetoric?

It seems like the price is ok, but it seems too easy... "Nothing is free".

2 MY years have passed, it has 5,000 miles, looks cosmetically 99% perfect, one owner, and sold back to the same dealership

Will or someone else in the know.

I am shopping both Yukons and F-150s.

Currently the deal on F-150s is pretty awesome, really coming off their price. At least for the lariat model. Haven't negotiated a KR or Platinum yet. 7k off a lariat. My guess is it will be 4-5k off a KR or platinum.

Priced a Yukon today. Sticker was 71k, and he said they could go 67k.

One issue I'm having is that I'm upside down in my car. I bought a sportier car and used it for commuting. It's a 2013 Ford Taurus SHO and I've amassed 82k miles since purchasing 2.5 years ago. I priced the trade in around 20k. I owe 22k. The GMC dealership offered 16,500.

Thoughts on how you would handle the trade? Do you think I'd get a better deal with a Ford dealership that has a big used lot?

Also, thoughts on the Denali pricing? The one I'm considering is 68k sticker, and he said it would be the same off, so 64k.

Or I can get a loaded f-150 lariat thats 57k, with 7k off. Plus whatever else I might be able to negotiate.

I am dumbfounded on why folks who aren't knocking down $250K + yearly are buying $71K vehicles. Admittedly, I am not "car guy" and simply use it for transportation. SO drives a Highlander Limited, 11 years old and like new, and I drive a Camry 6 years old.

Email me if anyone has questions or looking for advise in this area, as Coach Guidry and I know, how to make an easy deal to move a unit quickly

that's why you negotiate via email and do not go to the dealership without a signed deal in hand

Go read review for these and dodge vehicles in particular. They are always at the bottom of reliability and quality ratings.

In the market for a new truck myself. Been doing a ton of research and remembered this thread.

Purchasing: 2016 Toyota Tundra Crew Max, 5.7L (Platinum)
MSRP: ~ $50k
Invoice: ~ $45k-$47k

Currently Own: 2008 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner (V6)
Trade In: ~ $14k-$16k
Mileage: 72k

I'm looking to buy within the next 3 weeks considering it's end of year.

Has anyone had any experience purchasing from the Toyota dealerships here in Baton Rouge? New Tundras?

This is only the 2nd car I've owned, the first a high school beater, and the second this one that I've owned for 6 years. So I'm a little unfamiliar with the process outside of the techniques I've researched in this thread and online.

ETA: Looking further, I noticed a destination feed and regional fee.

The destination fee (aka the delivery to get the truck to the dealership before anyone even wants to buy it), is roughly $1200 per True Car's website.

Is this negotiable? I'm reading in several places that it isn't, but I find that hard to believe.
