I want to simplify my holdings.how many ETFs/MFs?

small cap?
Mid cap?
international ?
dividend ?
Real estate?
Preferred?

Is that too many categories?

You can just go total stock market funds if you want very simple.

Not enough info to really answer, but it can be simpler than your list. Don't need any bond money if you are a long ways from retiring. Don't really need international if you want simple. Lynxcat's answer below is a decent option for simple. Another simple option is part total market and part s&p500.

lately I've been simplifying my holdings. In my 401k, VTWIX (50%), VFFSX (35%), and VBTIX (15%)

My taxable is in USFR (15%) and AVGE (85%) at the moment.

My roth is AOA

I don't touch my 401k and only touch my roth to invest more once a year

I like my bonds/treasuries at my age around 15-20%

Easy and non stressful

I've been doing the same, consolidating my individual stocks to either broad marker or sector ETFs.
