I apparently hit the trifecta on my HO and Auto renewal this year

Whoo boy!
I had a $15k water damage claim from a failed joint coming into the basement main line
Have a new 16 yr old male driver
Original roof on 18 year old house
I don’t live in a wind or flood risk area and my shite doubled. Also, companies are using $185-$200 per sq/ft to determine replacement cost. I could scrape the lot, sell it and buy a bigger home in my own neighborhood for what they’re pricing my house at. Had a couple of other companies look at it and they’re not far enough from renewal to make a change.
Currently with Chubb….who did a GREAT job on the claim BTW.
Sorry…had to vent.

When I replaced my 15 year old roof last year, my HO premium went down about $500, and they cut me a check for the roof minus the deductible. I was amazed.

Assuming you had roof damage? Why did they pay to replace your roof?
I don’t want to be “that” guy, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been wishing for a hail storm for the last 5 years.

No way your roof doesn’t have some sort of hail damage if it’s that old.
You just need a decent adjuster that’s not a dickhead.
Or you could hire one of those sleezeball companies that will climb on your roof and give it a couple wacks with a golf ball in a sock before the adjuster gets there.

USAA quoted me $330k replacement cost for my house that Zillow says is worth $280k. When I told the guy that was ridiculous he said well do you know anyone who builds houses that could cut you a deal? Because then it would be worth it if you lost your home. Laughable.

Big diff in rebuilding costs vs value costs.
I insure homes on the beach daily which are purchased for $1mil+, but we only insure for $750k, bc they are 3000 sq Ft.
Works both ways.

Yep. Home and Car doubled in the last year.
NO claims.
Easy to understand why people are getting the hell out of here. Hear it weekly. Louisiana all out sucks.

Zillow
One of them knows a little better than the other- you be the judge. I remember the last time I updated coverages with USAA, they included a 25% adjustment or something along those lines to account for increased costs for supplies and Labor after a major disaster.
I waited for 15 years to replace my roof since it still cost me $3300 out of pocket to replace.
ETA: I’ll have a 16 year old driver this spring, so I’ve gotten a quote to add him to our policy

Unconscionable. Home, Flood, Auto, Medical all with massive double digit increases every year with higher deductibles and more coverage exclusions.
People leaving Louisiana is easy to understand. What is difficult to comprehend is how can anybody make a decision to move into this shithole?
