Hypothetically cash on the sidelines to invest

If you have 150k or so in cash, what do you do? Wait a while? Throw 20k in an s+p 500 fund now and dca on the way up or down? More? Less?

Whether you lump sum or DCA will be a blip on the radar with time frame that long.

If you're still unsure, do half now. Then invest the other half in equal installments over the next 6 months or a year.

Given that time horizon, I agree with gpburdell.

Just DCA over some period of time and in 30 years, that'll barely be a blip as far as your results are concerned.

You should probably have some small percentage in less volatile assets and not be 100% stocks. Say 15% or so. Use your taxable account for this, and the tax-advantaged accounts for the volatile assets like stocks or stock funds.
