Quick question: do you own an Apple Watch? To me, this is one of the most influenced non essential purchases.
a $300 multi functional watch is the best example of keeping up with the Joneses???

Yeah, a better question would've been how much, if any, do you spend on toys & luxuries

Changes context of original question.

Social influence of financial decisions is crux and to learn how others face and respond to said influence…

To berl it down, buying this or that is everyone’s prerogative, of course. The power that some assign to others by allowing themselves to be influenced (or not) is interesting discussion. The fact that this influence may have $1 million (near or more) net worth consequences (over a lifetime) to the influencee is the essence of intent and learning was hoping for. Whether people post or not…

Social influence of financial decisions

this is where all these "0%" posters lack insight. Like yea maybe you only buy what you "want" and you claim you don't give a shite what other people think but that "want" that you think is totally organic and part of your being is heavily influenced by social factors, one of which being how other baws perceive you

Unless you are certifiably autistic (which based on some of the posts I concede many on this board probably are), then social inputs are definitely driving a certain percentage of your discretionary spend whether you like it or not

That's a totally different issue. The fact someone doesn't show up at a black tie shindig wearing jeans and a tee shirt has nothing to do with keeping up with the Joneses.
