Just one account. I’m making money, but only have 3 stocks fit that profile. Carnival. Nike. Lowe’s. I am up overall, no complaints. Just wondering if I should be doing better. Or if I’m plus on a stock, I should just enjoy….

You should probably not be picking individual stocks but just stay in a S&P 500 ETF.

I'm willing to bet you have not read any of those companies 10-k or can tell me why they are a good investment.

Nobody can answer if you should be doing better because you did not give anyone any information.

And yes, many people are doing better than you and worse than you.

3 out of how many? When did you get in? What's the dollar amount you put into each, since not all positions are equal?

Are you talking about stocks that I'm up over 100% on?

Stocks I have held for decades have performed better than the trad3s I make.

I keep my stocks to about 20 individual all diversified. I am positive on 17 of the 20. Mind you they are all dividend stocks so and I reinvest the dividends. Overall I was up 8.23% for 2023. I did cut bait on two stocks this year. Was was done for years but barely and then it went positive and I sold all my shares. The other I took a small loss but looking at it now it would be a huge loss if I didn’t cut bait. Your companies reminds me of the stocks I picked in 8th grade for a project in school

You lost big time. Inflation ate up most of this and the S&P 500 went up 24%.

I'm at ~60% for picking winners vs losers in my current portfolio. Thankfully, the winners have made far more than the losers have lost.

If it's a solid S&P company you just have to play it long. It can get frustrating when stocks like Google are up 50 plus % but solid companies will make money long term.

99% of my investing is done in index funds.

I did throw a small amount into Lucid though, thought they might have a chance to be a big player in the EV game. Great battery tech, I like the stylish, and backed by big Saudi $$$. Big loser so far.

I own about 70 stocks and the only four i was down on at the end of the year were: AMZN , GOOGLE,UPS and ALB. I bought AMZN and Google right before their splits thinking i was so smart. ALB has been the worst performer in my portfolio by far.

I own about 20 individual stocks. I try not to go too much above that because I find it's too much for me to keep up with.

I also own a few ETFs and mutual funds. I have some stocks that I've owned for 10-20 years at this point and I'm up huge on a couple of those that I've held that entire time (AAPL 1100%, HD 900%, JPM 400%).

Obviously, those are some of my biggest winners and very long (decade+) holds.

In 2013 I quit a job where I had 135K in my 401K. I transferred that to a rollover IRA and bought 20 individual stocks that pay rising dividends. I've been reinvesting all dividends.

Some have done better than others. My worst dividend payer (Apple) is my best overall performer.

Surprisingly, one of my better picks has been Waste Management.

I have never added another penny to that account and today it's value is a little under 330K.

I'm sure there were better performing investments over the last decade, but I like the concept of a rising income stream in the future.

I've only been at this since 2018. Im so jealous of you guys that got to buy some of the bluebloods you mentioned at penny's on the dollar. The closer i get to retirement age i will probably narrow my list of stocks to about 20 but i enjoy the research . Sitting in front of a computer all day while working lends to researching my next purchases usually. I have two full time jobs .

I still buy individual stocks and I'll swap one for another occasionally. I only have a handful that I've held that long.

My worst decisions that haunt me are selling NVDA sub $10 and AMD at a few bucks

But much like you, following the markets and individual stocks is sort of a hobby I enjoy.

Did you include dividends in this return?

I am a complete novice, but First Horizon Bank is up about 50% since it bottomed out earlier this year. Bought at $9.60. A bit north of $14 this morning. Was a $24 before the bottom fell out. Time will tell how far it rebounds.
