In Denham, my home insurance went up 62% from last year. I'm not in a flood zone or anything. I'm currently w/ Progressive. Who do you guys recommend? I got a junk-mail letter in the mail from an Allstate agent promising some unrealistic things, but it did have my address and home stats.

I got the same letter and reached out to them because of the same reasons you are stating. Ill let you know when I hear back if its worth a hoot or not. I'm in assumption parish though.

I got a letter like that from Allstate. Called the agent listed and was told they weren’t doing policies in my area, and that was just a corporate generated standard advertisement. Good luck with whatever happens. There are no positive options, just varying degrees of crap.

I just had a similar issue in Denham... 4 miles north of I-12. I had Farm Bureau, and just made the switch to State Farm. My auto will be a little cheaper. My home isn't quite as cheap as I had been paying with Farm Bureau, but considerably less than what my renewal came in at.

State Farm and Allstate are taking back all the market share the smaller takeout companies (that have mostly pulled out or went bankrupt) took from them the last few years. I’d start there if I was shopping.

Get an insurance broker that can shop around and get the best rates. I use Insurance Network of Louisiana and have been pleased with them. My homeowners insurer notified us a few months ago they were pulling out of Louisiana and were not going to renew our policy. INL found me a new insurance company with the exact same coverages at about the same premium as my prior policy. Easy peasy.

I would hurry up and pay it if i was you. It's a lot better than 362% or 568%

I'd renew that progressive home and ask them to bundle your auto if not already bundled. Saving $300 a year with some take out carrier isn't worth it. Stick with Prog if you can afford it. Maybe get your agent to adjust your dwelling coverage a little.

We have ASI / Progressive also and ours jumps 61%, which is a lot better than our friends who have different insurers.
A buddy of mine mentioned to me that he and his dad both had wind mitigation inspections done which they submitted to their insurance company and it dropped their premium by almost $700 for the year. Inspection was $250 I believe. I plan to do the same.

That’s not even close to worst case scenarios for people w 200k-400k homes in a lot of situations right now.

Had an Independent but he can only shop certain carriers...good guy. What he was able to offer was no more competitive than what we already had. I called Farmers Insurance - auto was same, home was about 700.00 lower

Progressive/ASI non-renewed a bunch of policies that weren’t protected by the 3-year rule. I assume most of y’all with the massive increases have been with them 3+ years. They can’t legally cancel you so they’re giving crazy increases to the risks they don’t care to be on.

I am with progressive, south of I-10 with an Ida claim, and mine increased 15%.
Do you guys have older roofs?

Thibodaux. I had a considerable Ida claim. 61% is modest compared to the nightmare many people I know are going through. Most of them were dropped and had to shop and accept crazy premiums.

Damn, man. I’m about an hour west and south of I-10
Sorry for your loss

read this people. It ain't worth moving carriers to save $700 bucks only to get kicked to the curb by the new carrier in a year and you'll be out way more money than saved when needing to replace coverage again.
