Anybody think this is a buy yet?

Keep getting hammered with "bad" earnings. Growth just doesn't seem to be there anymore.

I don't think the earnings were bad, it's the guidance.

But you are correct that the guidance indicates a slowdown in growth.

I'm debating picking up more as well, but this is already one of my worst performers over the past few years

They're releasing results for an experimental HIV drug next week. I'm hoping for something good but all my pharma stocks have been getting destroyed so I'm pessimistic.

Only if you intend to hold it for a long time. It still pays a decent dividend but biopharma is getting hammered right now. Honestly, there are many lower priced stocks in other market segments that are paying the same or better divi's. I'm sitting on a few thousand shares myself that I bought in the mid-$80's so I'm holding on to what I have.

I wouldn't recommend considering anything a buy just because it's price is down, especially if there's a long term trend.

If there's something on the horizon that you believe will fix GILD's problems and will return them to growth, then by all means buy some more.

In situations like this, I like to write out my argument for why it's a buy and why now is the time to do it. I revisit after a few days to see if it still makes sense.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I'm not really looking at the price only, but the valuation is extremely cheap for the industry, but negative growth is definitely concerning.

Personally I think biotech as a whole is going to rebound big going into the summer (already has a good bit, and the biotech indexes look like they're breaking out of long term downtrends).

I'll probably grab 100 shares of GILD under $65.50 today. That also pays a dividend of over 3% right now.

6.6 PE right now, priced like it is in a major recession. It is something around 17PE if you take out their major drug tomorrow- still not terribly expensive if their major drugdidn't exist. I believe they have 2 years left on the patent. GILD desperately needs an acquisition for future cash flows and they have the cash to do it right now. If they hit with a nice acquisition, everyone who buys now will be incredibly happy. If they whiff, then most of that is already priced in for now

Was able to get a fill on that 100 shares @ $65.50

Plan to hold on for a while, any good news and they will rocket off. All "bad" news seems to be priced in and $65 looks like long term support too. Looks like it held too.
