Your heart is in the right place but is that really worth 1% of your portfolio per year?
ChatGPT is 10x better than any financial advisor you will find.

I have spent the last 2 days going over my finances with ChatGPT and was coming to post something similar.
I'm from LC. I don't know why anyone would pay for an LC-quality financial advisor OTHER than the comfort of knowing they'd be there for the wife, to walk her through the process and hold her hand (and he'd pay a ton for just that).
You can get much better advisors in big cities who will cost less, but it's likely they'd be part of a bigger operation and won't have that P2P touch
The "best" in LC is probably Tim Andreas (Andreas Global Asset Management Group)

We deal with Casey Jones w Edward Jones. I’ve known him for a while. He’s not trying to take advantage of you.

Yes, but Edward Jones is succeeding!

I don't disagree but the wife does not know how to handle all of this and tack on the loss of me and dealing with still young kids is enough of a burden.

As someone who's been in the financial services business for 20 years, I can assure you that this is b***s***!
Business is the same anywhere you go: some good, some bad, some worth the money, and some not worth a sh*t

Do some additional research and look for a true fee-only financial advisor who charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or annual retainer—not a percentage of assets under management - even if they aren’t local.
The idea of automatically paying 1% of your portfolio every year to a local brick-and-mortar firm is worth questioning… on a $1 million portfolio that’s $10,000 annually, and over 20–30 years that fee compounds against you.
Another positive of using someone remote: do you really want someone in your local community knowing and controlling your finances? If your wife can operate an iPhone, she can self manage your accounts with the guidance of a fiduciary fee-based advisor.

Do you really want someone halfway across the country that you've never met in person knowing and controlling your finances?

If it’s a fee-only advisor, they will have zero control.

Thank you fort posting this. I am currently with a financial advisor and not been happy the past year or so with them. I just got on chatgpt and was blown away at the info available. I think I am going to try to do this solo soon.
