My energy positions are just xom and SO, and makes up about 20% of my "side money" portfolio.

I'm still reluctant to buy, but I must say XOM feels like a stock that everyone will look back on in amazement that no one would touch at this dividend/ price ratio.
There was a looong time in the '90's that Apple stock was considered dead money.
Additional considerations for Exxon:
+They just boosted estimates on their Guyana field.
-It's in Guyana. A rather contentious Presidential race in the country will be decided in March of this year.

I just sold some BP 32.5 puts ahead of earnings. If I get the shares put to me, I can live with 32.5, since that’s well enough below my current cost basis. I haven’t studied XOM at all. But for those who have, a similar play on it might be worth a look.
