Got 50k extra right now. ETH long or not?
I'll hang up and listen. Back in the a.m.

What are your other options? ETH will outpace the stock market gains. Crush stock market gains.

Why not some SOL or Matic or HEX as well? Maybe a small cap play like Scope included as well.

I own a lot of ETH that I bought when I was first learning about crypto.

Now that I have a better than average understanding about crypto, I only buy Bitcoin.

ETH is a speculative play in my opinion that could pay off. Bitcoin is guaranteed.

I believe in it. Do you own any other crypto? If not why not split it between ETH and BTC to start?

A little sure. It’s an awful chain so only a matter of time before it loses to one of the more efficient ones like SOL

ETA: I’d establish a position in BTC first if you haven’t. Get you a chunk and don’t touch it for 10 years. Then use the remainder of the funds for alt coins

And in 5 years, there will be a more efficient one, and so on.

The long term winner will be built as a second layer on Bitcoin, a future reserve currency/asset.

Agreed.

If you go the non bitcoin route, you will have to stay up on it. It’s not a set it and forget it strategy. Over 5-10 years there will be so much change in the industry.

It's pretty cool to hate on ETH at the moment, but I see it as a relatively safe bet as much as crypto can be a safe bet.

There’s plenty of valid reason to hate on ETH right now. They’ve never hit a milestone target in their entire existence and fees are beyond stupid. $100 in fees to swap out $10 of a coin….cmon!

I do like ETH and my Crypto portfolio is roughly 75% ETH, 25% BTC and a the rest in SHIB....I know risky however it's money I'm willing to lose.

This doesn't sound like a great plan. You have a better chance YOLO'ing on 20 different small cap coins.

No one ever hits their target milestones. The entire crypto space is made up of "the next big thing" that never meet their deadlines or utility. Eth just makes the mistake of publicizing their dates when they know they won't meet them.

Yeah, the fees are an issue for you and me, but they don't seem to be an issue for the big guys. You and I will use L2 or sidechains. Large entities that still require decentralized security will continue to use L1. The amount of development focused on L2 ensures the relevance and value of L1.

I won't argue there are bigger gains to be made out there. There for sure are. It's just a matter of risk. I have money in supposed "eth killer," too.

too many dumb normies own eth and this thread is further proof of that

better gains elsewhere. I have too big of an ego to make the same gains as some turd who doesn't even know how to use the thing he is shilling

Of course the people deep in crypto agree with you, but it's a good start and will still outpace the hell out of stocks.

I'm a big fan of diversification. I don't see the point of buying just ETH with that $. Buy a few higher upside plays with that money.

Something like Scope could 1000x next year. Avax and Sol both did 10000x this year and more will do it again next year.

I only have enough ETH to cover gas fees when I need it. But do you have to insult people everytime you post?

naa ill stay aggressive

too many people were misled by chainlink/eth shillers last year while life-changing gains were made on other L1s as tenderfoot said

Buy some ETH. Don't put all it all in ETH.

Does it have to be all or nothing? If I have $50k crypto tomorrow it is going $25k in Luna and $25k in Solana if it’s long term. I have a lot in ETH already, so that’s not to say ETH is not worthy of an investment. If I had $50k to make a highly speculative bet it would probably go to Shibu because it probably has the best chance for a fast run up (even if unsustainable), but also a significant chance of falling further like Doge did. There are a lot of variables for $50k before just a yes or no to your question, but if the question is whether you will make money on a $50k investment in ETH my answer is it will do far better than keeping it in fiat or even the overwhelming majority of stocks over the next 12 months.
