This is a completely ignorant statement.
Found the Edward Jones employee
Edwards Jones stock/etf transaction fees = $4.95
Fidelity stock/etf transaction fee = $0
Edward Jones commissions = up to 2.5% of the principal amount or a $50 minimum commission
Fidelity commissions = 0.01% to 0.03% of the principal
But yeah sure a completely ignorant statement.

Again, you’re comparing a full service broker dealer to a DIY platform….
Now compare those charges to the other wire houses and Broker Dealers. You’re also using fees from a brokerage platform, not a managed platform.
Do better next time.

Avoid NW mutual - they will constantly push you to buy a whole life policy. Their tactics and sales model is MLM-level scummy, encouraging new salesmen to sell high fee whole life to friends and family in almost predatory fashion.
I can vouch for this. I was conned into the whole life thing a few years ago and got smart after a couple years and cancelled. The guy did everything short of crying to convince me not to cancel.

Never use an insurance company for investments.
I hear only bad things about Edward Jones.
Fidelity is solid.

Why a broker instead of an RIA?
You can throw RIAs into that group as well - my point was you’re either a DIYer and want to pay as little as possible, or you want someone to help, and you’ll have options like Edward Jones, Raymond James, RIAs, etc. that have various levels and options for compensation that is more $0.

General contractors- 10-25% of project cost.
Be your own contractor for free.
That’s the same kind of comparison we’re making. It’s apples to elephants.

This board hates Edward Jones more than any other firm, which is strange, because they’re nearly always at the top of full-service brokerage customer satisfaction surveys:
I believe they fell a bit in the 2022 rankings, but the point remains. At the end of the day, your experience is mostly going to be based on your advisor, not the firm.

What is the best brokerage firm as far as investments?
No offense, but that’s a completely open ended question, with no details about your needs, goals or experience.
Are you looking to buy stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, bills/notes/bonds or brokered CDs frequently or just once or twice a year to fill up your IRA? Is this a taxable brokerage account? Are you well versed on investments, or are you looking for education and/or guidance? Lots of variables to determine a decent answer. What size will your opening deposit be? Many brokerages offer new account bonuses that vary with opening deposit size.
Schwab has bought TD Ameritrade and will be integrating their platforms this year. Schwab is still offering a new account bonus, whereas I don’t believe TDA is. I’ve been with Schwab and/or TDA for about 30 years. No problems to speak of. Lastly, there’s little difference between the majors when it comes to self-directed investing. I’d select the one that offers the products and services you’re most interested in. I can’t speak to the Edward Jones option, as I don’t have any experience with them… and will keep my opinion about the firm to myself. As for Northwestern Mutual, I wasn’t aware that they had a brokerage service. But no matter who you pick, the brokerage won’t be the determining factor in your investing success… the fellow in the mirror will determine that. Good luck.

Probably has more to do with their customers’ ignorance and thinking they’re getting a great deal. EJ is full of fees, just like insurance companies’ investment options.

When my parents passed we inherited some stock they had bought through EJ. We sold it so we could invest proceeds in our own accounts. EJ charged us $2,500 commission on a $40k transaction when the same sale at Schwab was zero.

Are you aware of any full service financial advisors that don’t charge a fee?
Again, y’all are comparing apples to oranges. The Venn diagram of the average Vanguard client and the average Morgan Stanley client doesn’t intersect.

No they didn’t. Their fee has already been posted in this thread.
Also, you could have transferred it to Schwab and sold it there for free, but as a DIYer, you don’t know what you don’t know.
