I, on the other hand, am a lost cause.

I fear I may be too at 5/24 on the dot. I wish I had something dropping off soon. I have to give it a try though, I really want the 100k. I won't apply for the 50k I don't think.

Yeh thats how it goes. Catch is the 3% fee but that's what you pay for convenience. Other way is 1% but a lot more work. Long term the 2% differential adds up. For every now and then just to meet minimum spends it's not too bad

Only thing is I wouldn't to chase quickpay. I'd use some other bank. Like I said earlier, keep chase separate as much as you can. Don't want any eyes on your account for any reason whatsoever

Instead of quick paying it right back into your account, could just get the money back from whoever you sent it to and deposit it back into the account in different amounts periodically

I may bite the bullet and move over 120K.

I just booked the Westin Whistler for 5 nights next month but now I only have 500 SPG points

You're killing me with your "I'll just move 120kk over" How many do you have total? Never mind, don't tell me. I love SPG.

But keeping in mind AS devaluing without notice recently

I thought it was overall not bad and in some cases good? I don't like that they did it without notice though.

Any thoughts from someone else?

I think you answered your own question. If you could get an SPG card and bonus like you can with AS, which would you get? I know what I would. SPG is so valuable. I don't care if you have millions of SPG there's more flexibility by far. But I don't know if you use hotels and miles like I do. If only miles then maybe AS makes sense but I would still keep the SPG points since AS are so easy to get.

I've already done a trail run of this in the $30 range. If I do spread it out, both timewise, and with a few different people I should be fine. I assume...

EDIT to add: Is it true that you can't buy re-loadable Vanilla cards at Walmart with a credit card? I saw one today with a $500 max and just a $3.95 fee.

You can buy but these are hard to liquidate. Stick with CVS > Albertsons or giftcards.com > WM.

If you are going to do Venmo, you are thinking into this too much. It is only $4k. You don't really need to spread it out or anything. Just send it to your wife in 4 x $1k batches and she withdraws into her account. Done.

Great way to look at it. My mind is made. Keeping my SPG points.

VERY good. But for how long?

From the other post I meant you can use united.com to search star alliance partners (generic statement since only ua operates hawaii to mainland routes anyway). Most of Saver award space will be made available to book through partners. So you can use Singapore airlines (SQ) miles to book this flight (30K RT). If you have Expert Flyer - X award space is available to partners. XN is not. Both are saver.

I had checked earlier on UA and they had a Saver award with HA and UA combined. So I would convert UR to SQ and book, who do I call to do that?

Make sure you dont sign in when searching for these awards. If it is still visible call singapore airlines to book ((800) 742-3333). Im not sure if they will see HA space though but would like to know. So please report back.

Btw Im confused as to whether its 30 or 35K. So that is another thing I'd like to know I know for a fact that it is significantly lesser than UA

Well, I saw Saver for to SEA but not back to HNL so I'll keep checking this and others. I'll let you know if HA is bookable if I call them. Thanks for the advice and phone #. I can get the trip for 120k AS miles for 2 people rt non-stop. But that's a lot of miles I'd like to use for more than 1 trip.

No XN award space if you dont sign in. (Elites and cardholders have access to this space)

I would just pay at that point. Make sure you check the # of UR required through CSR portal @ 1.5c if you have it.

Oh ok, I thought you were talking about UA but you meant EF.

Yeah, right now it's about $650 each rt. I don't want to blast 60k miles for that. Looked at UR and since I only have 55k points left I'd still have to pay $630 OOP. Not sure which way to go yet, but knowing the KA trick and even BA 50k is enough for 2 rt tickets.

Yeah but if there is no availability on Alaska, Delta or AA you're out of luck with those.

I was talking about UA. If you don't log in, you wont run the risk of seeing XN space which is otherwise not made available to partners.

hypothetically, if you had the CSR and let's say you hadn't used any of the $300 travel credit by the end of the year, could you buy points or an airline gift card with the credit? I'm assuming that counts as a travel purchase.

Points are a little tricky since most airlines sell their points through points.com. So even though you buy it say on aa.com, the transaction is processed through points.com meaning no travel credit.

Airline gift cards - yes absolutely.

Depends on how the airline codes the purchase... GC are a definite yes, as I did that with the Amex Platinum $200 credit.

As long as the merchant comes up as a group identified as travel by Chase, you are good.

AirBnB GCs is another good option. You can apply the balance of these GCs to your account and it never expires. Uber too.

Yeah, I know that for now, but I still don't want to use 50k for 1 ticket knowing those values

Sometimes the simplest is the easiest forgotten, so I figure I'll remind those with the AS card in case they forgot

Used the companion pass Alaska gives you with the card and got the trip booked for total of $883 instead of $1,300 minimum on other airlines with stops or 120k miles on AS. For $440 each we go non-stop both ways on Alaskan and earn miles
