Holy cow. I remember (from the coup thread) that your parents were in Istanbul. Very glad to hear they made it out safe and sound.

Just booked a flight to Madrid with my new CSR. I needed to use that $300 travel credit before the end of the year, and came upon a flight to Madrid for $362. I couldn't pass it up.
How are flights so cheap right now?

That's round trip. May 11-31 out of Boston (which I'll use my SW miles to fly to).
My dates were very flexible though, so I was able to search for the best price. Still many options out there though.
I've been seeing cheap flights like that all over the world. If there is ever a time to travel now is it apparently.

Europe flights have been cheap for the better part of 6 months to a year.
There's some good competition on those routes and then add in a couple terrorist attacks in Western Europe and voila!

On the CSR, do I need to just charge $4k or pay off $4k?
Posted on 12/7/16 at 6:51 pm to jmarto1
Charge $4000
If you pay interest though, you've already turned it into a bad deal though

Teddy, here's my deal
-23
-Graduated in May
-Been working since July as an electrical engineering consultant
-Lots of international work, expenses reimbursed
-Want a credit card with points and shite so that I'm getting something off my expenses. Been paying with debit card smh
-Have an AMEX gold premier rewards on my parents' account that I pay off every month. -3 credit reports have me ranging from 722-794
Denied for Amex Blue Cash Preferred and Chase Sapphire Preferred. Both said not enough accounts/not long enough history
What's something I can get for sure to get some credit? Kinda pissed off lol

ETA: Chase Freedom is a good beginner card that usually gets approved but Teddy probably knows better ones out there for travel rewards

Exactly. Need to get this ball rolling

Damn, that's nice. I do wish I could fly out easier international but it's a fair trade off.

And you can rack up those 5x's rewards quarterly, so when you do get the CSR or CSP you'll have plenty of points to transfer over and take advantage of.

You call their reconsideration line? If you have the income, you may be able to get them to change their mind

Wait a few months and apply again. If you get approved now, your first statement will close in January and you will not get the 2016 $300 travel credit.

I had to break it to some friends that they waited too long to apply for SW business card trying to grab a companion pass. I felt horrible
Posted on 12/8/16 at 10:40 am to GenesChin
Why do you say that? Plenty of time to get companion pass. Still many referral links out there for 50K on all SW cards.

Wife and I are looking to do a 7-8 day trip to Hawaii in mid to late April, will be our first time visiting Hawaii. Looking to do Oahu for Pearl harbor and 1 other island, leaning towards Maui right now (But open to suggestions). We both enjoy hiking, outdoors, snorkeling, etc. but want to spend at least 1 lazy/drunk day on the beach (wedding anniversary trip).
Right now I have 205k SPG points. Wife and I both have our own SPG cards for referral bonus, signup bonus. Last time I had asked here for some advice it was suggested I get Chase Sapphire Preferred and then the Chase Hyatt. One thing to mention is that we live in Houston, so we would really, really like to take the direct United flight there and back.
Looking for advice on:
-Where to go / what to do
-How to best utilize my points
-How to best utilize any sign up bonuses, credit cards, etc to help with the trip

If you can spend 7 nights on 1 island:
Use Marriott nights and flights. Choose Korean skypass miles. You will need 25K per person rt. Get Marriott points from SPG at 3 marriott from 1 spg. Will cost you about 101K SPG for 7 nights and the flights in Cat 8 marriott. Maui has a ritz too which will cost you 163K for the same.
LINK
If you def wanna do 2 islands:
Transfer 40K spg to korean and fly on delta. Korean allows open jaws so you can fly into HNL and out of OGG.
Use SPG to marriott to stay 5 nights on 1 island (since 5th night is free). Transfer 10K to AA to get the inter island on AA (5k pp)

If they are phasing out the old INK card, will I eventually be able to downgrade to the no fee version down the road?
Haven't hit 13 month mark yet
