Too many pages to sift through so I'll just ask. Do Chase Sapphire points transferred to Southwest Rapid Rewards account apply to the companion pass? As in can I simply transfer 100,000 points from Sapphire to Southwest Rapid Rewards and then have the companion pass?

No. But it is easy with CC bonuses.

Game Changer. Not only do you have a stock pile of 110k SW points, but it's a 2-4-1 special for 2 years.

Don't forget status match to Alaska 75K (top tier status). By requesting Alaska, they could status match your SW Companion pass to MVP 75K. Could leverage it with 125% mileage earning with 99$(+taxes) companion pass that comes with the BoFa card (Alaska BoFA). Very High possibility of upgrading to Business with Alaska Gold Guest upgrades that comes with status. Works with multi city. Just another advantage of SW companion pass if you wanna milk it.

How do you guys feel about the longer-term value of earning spg points vs marriott with the merger pending? I'm referring more to stays rather than other non-hotel spending. I stay in a hotel about 2 (consecutive) nights a week. By my math, I can earn about 2.5x the points at Marriott vs Starwood properties including elite bonuses, charging the stay on the respective credit cards, and the current SPG double points promo. I generally use my points for stays rather than airline transfers.
I guess has anyone seen anything on what the conversion factor might be? I have the same corporate rate at a marriott and a westin so can pick whichever I want. Although the marriott property is much nicer than the westin.

Since no-one knows what the pending merger means for the points, I would say currently stick to whichever hotel program you like better. For you, I would go SPG way because it seems like you could easily attain Platinum Status (top tier) with SPG rather quickly, which comes after 25 stays, 23 if you have 1 card, 21, if you have both. And this also include any Award stays (unlike Marriott). Marriott top tier status is much harder to obtain. And SPG status comes with guaranteed suite night upgrades.
As far as points go, they could either give you a ratio SPG to Marriott or they could stay separate programs (like IHG and Kimpton). It is anybody's guess right now. Since I mainly use SPG points for Airline Transfers to AS, AA or JAL, and sometimes Cat 1-3 props, I know I will transfer all my points out of SPG to probably AS unless the conversion ratio is at least 5:1. Which is highly unlikely.
In short: Sit tight and go SPG.

Actually this counts towards status on Marriott as well now. New change sometime last year. Not that I disagree with anything else you said as he should stick with SPG for now.

Ah you're right. They did have some changes. Never really been a huge Marriott rewards fan personally. Only use for me ever would be nights+flights for 5 or 7 nights at a Ritz or something.

Good advice. I generally stay enough nights to qualify for plat status in two programs. Last year I did spg and marriott. The marriott property I use is actually a ritz, so i get to plat with 37.5 nights with their 2-for-1 elite nights program.
This year, I was thinking about qualifying with either spg or marriott and also trying to keep hyatt diamond from the spg status match I got late last year. The only problem is the hyatt in my destinatation city is pretty horrible and further away from my office.
The only redemption I've ever used for hotels is a Ritz in the Caribbean that was going for $1k a night over the holidays. Huge redemption value with the 5th night free! Although I would never have paid $1k a night for it.
I hadn't considered the program staying separate post-merger...

Just a thought: Maybe focus all your nights on SPG until you reach 500 lifetime nights. That will get you lifetime Plat with SPG. That would be pretty nice. Then you could go explore other programs while always having this in the bag.
Also at 75 annual nights, you get SPG Your24. Basically you get 24h from whenever you check in at the hotel and only get charged for 1 night.
If you have a ton of Marriott points - look into Marriott Nights and Flights. The 7 night option is publicly available, but there is also a cheaper, lesser known, 5 night option.

Somebody raided my gas station or they quit selling OVs. Damnit
.
This is why we can't have nice things.
I'll have to check another location or check back next week. The whole prepaid section looked a little empty. Hoping some points junky just emptied them out and they didn't discontinue sales.
ETA: Nobody actually legitimately buys these things for everyday use right?

You wouldn't think that fast.
But if it has been awhile then maybe.
The thing I noticed the most is how thrown off cashiers are when you go for the full $500. I wonder what the average amount loaded is at $5.95 per?
I'm also thinking I'm going to start buying GCs from Staples again to use at the grocery store. I need to get more efficient without loads.

JK. I still don't know what gas station.
Lot of people who are here illegally actually get paid with these. 1 person who is actually legal and has an SSN claims salary for the whole troop. Then he is responsible for paying his buddies. Keeping in mind these people can't have bank accounts either - guess what their favorite way of payment is?
Be nice to be that one guy though. Hope he knows about this.
Its also very likely they just stopped selling Variable loads at that store. Just like albertsons. They actually make a loss if you load $500. They have to pay CC companies fees on the entire payment. While they only get paid a portion of the $5.95. So if they figure most of the times they're selling past the break even point, they will stop selling. Probably what happened at Albertsons. They can only justify these as a loss leader for so long.

Yep. Almost always triggers a second look. I'd imagine $100 and less is the norm.

Agreed. I've gotten fairly lazy in generating extra points on shopping not done online. Things got a little hectic for me for a bit with all the bonus offers during Q4. Time to restrategize.
Anybody have info on when the Ink card will be subject to the 5/24 rule?

Uh oh...I wonder if we have the same spot. The manager at "mine", Iris, is good about ordering the cards by calling Lard Oil but the shelves have been empty the past two weeks.
