Hey guys,
Curious if you might be some help here.
My wife's cousin's wife succumbed to cancer and a memorial is this Saturday in Abingdon, VA. Very sad situation, was only diagnosed a few months ago. They got married at the hospital.
This location is hell on earth with flight tickets to anything nearby TRI(Bristol), GSP(Greenville/Spartanburg), CLT, TYS(Knoxville), AVL(Asheville) being $700 plus. I've found award flights on AA/US to CLT/Asheville, etc. for Friday and then drive. Not finding much for Sunday return as expected.
Anywho, curious if there are any ideas you may have have on that return or airports I may be missing within about 3 hours or if I have them all.
Might just have to pay but figured I'd ask. Thanks in advance.
ETA: Found Roanoke and Lynchburg as well. Good grief.

What's your recs on having a bad credit score and just getting a few more cards and paying them off every month in full? Will it up my credit score quicker than just paying on the one I have every mo.?

Define a bad score because a bad score usually means denial for credit cards and definitely no premium cards. Only time can heal a poor credit history.

Has anyone had any problems with applying for multiple cards from the same bank in a short amount of time?
I posted a month or 2 ago about getting the United MileagePlus Explorer Card and then the CSP.
The United card got approved immediately, and I blew through the $3k sign-up bonus minimum in 5 weeks, so I just applied for the CSP so that I can start on that bonus minimum.
The CSP app didn't get approved right away. I had to call Chase. The girl asked me a few questions and then said she was recommending it for approval but had to forward it to a senior analyst.
Has this happened to anyone else?
This is the first time I've applied for more than 1 card in a short amount of time. I have a very solid credit history and a score in the high 700's. I do have a lot of cards with Chase though so I'm wondering if that's it. Chase Sapphire (no fee), Marriott, United and now CSP app. All have 5 digit limits. Is that too much?

This happened to me as well with my wife. It seems to be a new thing Chase is doing to "crack down" a bit. Seems they are taking into account total inquiries no matter if Chase or not.

Did yours still go through?

Ya. First time it didn't due to misunderstanding. THey thought my wife wanted $10,000 credit on the card to open it without deductions from other cards.
Called back after rejection and told them to take the $10,000 from British Airways card. Went through.
This is, however, making me perhaps rethink my strategy with Chase in the future. Perhaps stay away from some of the more "maybe I'll use this" point offerings from other issuers.

Thanks,
I ended up with a 12.5k flight to ROA and a 30k flight from TRI back to MSY on American. Put her up in a Starwood hotel at ROA airport for 3k. Got her a rental car. Cost ended up $250 out of pocket for every thing. I suppose I could have knocked off one of the close-in booking fees but I prefer her not driving too much further than she has to.
That was just no time stressful for me to plan it much better I suppose.

Chase has changed their policy on the Chase branded cards. If you want a Freedom, Slate or Chase Sapphire Preferred you'd best not have application sprees in the last two years. They are denying people left and right if they've opened more than 4 new credit card accounts in the last two years. Co-branded cards do not appear to be an issue (at least for now).
The credit card points game is changing.

Interesting. That shouldn't be a problem for me so hopefully it gets approved. My 2016 travel plans kind of hinge on the CSP 1:1 transfer.

It is and as long as the economy is improving I'm sure they will continue to impose more restrictions just like AMEX with the lifetime restriction.
I've decided to limit my apps to 4 Alaska air cards(2 personal/2biz) for both my wife and me this year. 2 now and 2 at year end. I still have some decent stock piles and don't really need anything else. I'm going to use it to do first class on Emirates Milan-JFK since they're putting their A380 on the route. On board showers is just silly and I figure I might as well. 100k Alaska miles one way.

Only around 600
Would a secured card help?

It's probably your only option. You can also try for one of the unsecured starter cards from Capitol One.

The Chase Freedom opens up for people right about 600 according to CreditKarma.

I was in the same boat several years ago. I didn't have negative history, just no history. My score was around 600 and the only card I could get was a capitol one card with $300 limit. Get that card for a year spend 80/month, pay it off, in a year you will be at 700.
