Thinking about getting this card for gas. Between the wife and I using it for gas seems like a no brainer.

Would also be good if you ate out alot and used it for restaurants, etc.

quote:

Benefits at the Gas Station: 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500 spent, 1% cash back thereafter. Also, earn unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases. The categories include gas stations!

With the Citi Custom Cash? Card you'll also get $0 annual fee and an Intro APR of 0% for 15 months. Earn $200 in cash back after you spend $750 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. This bonus offer will be fulfilled as 20,000 ThankYou® Points, which can be redeemed for $200 cash back.
Unlike some of the other cards on this list, there are no rotating bonus categories to sign up for. Make this card your gas card and cash in on cash back at the pump.

5% eligible categories: Restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, select travel, select transit, select streaming services, drugstores, home improvement stores, fitness clubs, live entertainment.

Not positive, would check on that... but I think so.

I have a capital one walmart card that does 5% though if you do pickup order. 1% if not pickup.

Wife uses it for pickups all the time.

Grocery purchases excludes purchases at general merchandise and discount superstores, wholesale and warehouse clubs. That means you're going to need to shop at a grocery store, not places like Walmart, Costco

I think you would come out close to the same with just getting the Citi double cash. (2% cash back)
If you spend $2,000 in a month you only get 5% on the $500 spend and 1% after. If you spent $500 @ 5% back on groceries=$25 and 1500 on other categories @1%=$15. Total= $40 cash back.
2% on 2000 spend is $40.
I guess you could do a little better if you limited your purchases to the $500 in the selected category only and used other cards for other purchases.

I think my math and process is correct but not swearing on it.

If you shop at Sam's i'd look in to Sam's visa. 5% back on all gas (from anywhere) with occasional bonuses. This month it's 10% for gas on Saturdays. iirc Costco has similar card. It's sam's cash back, but i do lots of Sam's shopping so it work's for me.

I have thr citi 2% cash back. It's my go to for just about everything.

Was thinking of using this one for gas only.

Yeah, I just saw that one and we do shop at Sam's. I get a free membership from a friend of mine that's a manager there and gave.me one of her extra cards. I don't have my own membership.

It really depends on your current spending needs. If you spend less than $500 a month on food or gas then you probably like the option of the custom cash card.

Other options
- a flat 2% back (on everything) card with no limits
- the 4% savor (no annual fee) or the 6% savor (with a fee) for food
- the 5% cash back on gas card from Sam's
- the Bank of America 3% back card (which can be increased to over 5% depending on how much investment value you maintain with Merril)

Thanks, yeah, the custom cash card fit me best with what we spend, other cards we have, etc.

So I went ahead and got it.

Will be here in 7-10. :)
