I get everything that's going on right now and I understand the bad optics of "betting on a company to fail," but shorting is actually a pretty important function and ability. It has historically helped bring various frauds and schemes out to the macro level.

They'll just be keeping their short positions under wraps and be less transparent. This isn't an altruistic move in a positive direction. They're just openly saying that they are going to be more shady than ever and do all their deals in the backroom.
