Chase Sapphire Reserve - nice temporary benefit for current card holders

I never received a notice about this or anything (maybe it is in my spam/junk email) - but for a limited time Chase will let you redeem your points to "pay yourself back for eligible purchases" at 1.5x value.
Once an eligible purchase posts (grocery stores, dining, home improvement stores), you have 90 days to use this pay yourself back feature to redeem your points for 1.5x value as a statement credit against these purchases.
I've always used my points strictly for travel, to get he 1.5x benefit (as I'm sure most everyone with this card does). But it's really awesome that this offer is being made available now, to get that value at a time when travel may be less frequent. I went ahead and did that for everything I could. Chase will list all the eligible purchases for you, it's an easy process if you want to do it.
Just a heads up for anyone else out there with this card. Like I said, I wouldn't have known about it but I logged on to book a car rental.

Yep, I just bough $8K of appliances for my new home, going to use points to pay for them, as I don't have any travel for the rest of this year. Likely to cash out and get rid of it anyway since they raised the fee.

I must have missed this - what is the new fee? I just paid my annual fee a few months back and it was still $450

Also offering 5x on grocery stores through July I believe. I have been crushing this perk

It is going to $550, was supposed to start with June renewals I think, but they might have delayed it with Covid. Mine is up in September, and I'm going to cash out my points and find something else.

Hmmm would be interested what you find. I’ve really loved the Reserve (bundled with freedom and unlimited) and all the other benefits with it. Was always well worth the $450 to us. Probably even worth the $550 but better value might be out there.

Yup stumbled upon this last night and burned most of my points.

Just did mine, went from 559K points to 23K.

Damn, I was considering going back once I'm up for another sign on bonus, but with that fee, its questionable.
50% bonus on using points through travel is nice and the $300 travel credit, but $550 is getting steep.
Same fee for the Amex Plat and you get $200 travel, $200 Uber Credit, $100 Saks, Centurion Lounges, and much better customer support.
Reserve still may be worth a churn and burn if I stack a Ink business sign on bonus with it to get a few international trips in with the 50% bonus on points.

Chase is keeping annual fee at $450 for renewals through end of 2020. Don’t forget they also added $60 in door dash credits for 2020 and $60 more for 2021. Pretty sure you don’t have to use door dash delivery either to get the credit. I think you can pay for food using door dash app and pick it up yourself. We live in non doordash delivery area so I’m going to try using it that way.

Thanks for the post. I basically got a 1/3 off sale on all of my restaurant, home improvement and grocery purchases on that card over the last 90 days. I think I’m ahead $150 after fees so far this year.

Your points never expire, so you can kill the card and keep the points for when you need them.

1.5x for credit payoff is a great option. I like that the Chase and Amex have been upping their game lately. The $40 credit from Amex on cell and streaming is great.
I still think the CSR is a keep at the $550. The travel credits are extremely easy to use and the 1.5x bonus has a low breakeven.
However, Chase’s customer service has taken a nose dive. When I signed up for the CSP years ago, the number on the back of the card was a dedicated line for CSP customers. You never went through an IVR. Now, even the CSR gets the same shitty experience. I was told that I couldn’t use my points to book SWA since Chase doesn’t have a relationship with SWA.

We always hit the max spend on that ($6000) before the end of the year, so we've been using our Reserve this month for the 5X.

You can also use the $300 travel credit on gas or groceries until the end 2020.

How do you get the 1.5? I tried to do a statement credit and it was just showing 1-1 point value.
