Car Insurance Questions

I have a question about my car insurance rates. I currently have State Farm and my rates have been going up every 6 months. No accidents or tickets within the last 5 years. We currently pay a combined $343 per month for a smaller SUV and small sedan (nothing fancy by any means). SUV almost paid off (5 more payments) and sedan just purchased in June. I've gotten online quotes from Progressive and Allstate for similar coverage in the low $200 range per month. My question is: Which of these companies would you go with? Or another one all together? We have been happy with State Farm but just can't justify paying more than $100 more a month than we could be. Thanks for any advice!

I sell Progressive in LA and they have decent rates right now depending on your credit score.
But, please keep in mind the discount on your homeowner's insurance that may be lost if you switch your cars.
If you don't have homeowners insurance through SF, switch tomorrow.

We had home/auto with State Farm for years. Shopped the coverage and switched to Farmers. Home about a wash, saved about $400/ $500 on auto. Kind of figure shopping rates is okay as no one else is going to do it

Call an independent agent, they will get you quotes from a bunch of companies. Compare their best quote to the captive agents you quoted and then choose.

Yeah our homeowners is through someone else, so that's irrelevant. They wanted an obscene amount (like double what other companies wanted) even after our auto bundle.
That's what I was thinking. Thanks!

Progressive is who I have and they are awesome (customer service when was in wreck, claims, or just asking questions). Also call and they qualify other discounts you cant select online (college degree, etc).

Have had great experience with Progressive. Pay around $2,200 per year for a SUV and sedan. $500 deductible.

I had switched my cars back to State Farm a few years ago because having everything there dropped my homeowners around $500. My car insurances just went up 40% ($1,200/yr.). I had a couple tickets over a year ago but had paid a full year without my rates going up until now. Asked the agent about that and they said they had no surcharge listed and were unaware of my tickets. Just said that rates have increased across the board. One of our cars was recently totaled (other driver's fault), so it is obvious they are penalizing us for that when they legally shouldn't.

ask your agent if they can add some premium rider deductions.
