We send our Son to a mother's day out program at a local church 3 times a week. It's kind of like day care but not officially classified as day care.
Can I claim this as a dependant care expense in order to qualify for the credit?

I think the reason you send the kid has to be so that you can go out and work and make money on which you pay taxes.

Do you have a receipt and does the provider have a tax ID? You'll need to be able to say yes to those two questions.

Do both you and your wife work? If yes then the care should qualify. If both do not show an income then childcare isnt deductible.

The expense would qualify as long as you meet the other requirements regarding earned income, full time student status or looking for work.
