Business owners insurance...

Reviewing my current policy it states that if interruption of business occurs for a covered loss that the policy will cover the payroll for employees but not for any officers, I am both an employee and an officer and after multiple emails with my agent (I guess my agent but who knows) she has confirmed that I would NOT be eligible for payroll reimbursement even for the portion of me working as a W2 employee, and further when I requested to shop the policy to compare verbiage of like polices with other companies was informed that they do not write for any company that does......
so is this normal? are officers always excluded? is there options out there?

This is how I have seen it for the company I work for (Officer and i review/sign all of the policies).

Business interruption that covers lost revenues/gross profit? It won't directly address the salaries for owners/officers; but by replacing a portion of the lost revenues, you can use that income to pay owner/officer salaries.
Edit: I am guessing this is an option. We do not have business interruption because the owner thought it was a waste of money (kicking himself after Ida) the cost of adding it would have increased our policy by 60%. Therefore, I have not fully vetted all of the coverages

Was a cpa for 5 years and did quite a few of these calcs for state farm at a big firm. Hated it and became a lineman so as of now I barely know what I'm talking about.
You may not receive a payroll reimbursement but probably will receive it as lost profits. You are basically redirecting profits to you personally but at end of day, it's all you. In lost profit and valuation work, owner salary is added back to net income. You wont get it on the employee side but will be on the profit side. Your salary is totally discretionary, that's why it makes no difference what side it comes from and the result should be the same regardless if you receive a salary or not.

Thank you and that makes sense, wish my agent could explain a little better, maybe time for a change?

Get a new agent. Your agent isn’t giving you all your options because they don’t feel like doing the work to find what you’re looking to find.

But do you have that coverae? That’s the entire point? Is you need to cover gross profit or lost revenue, not just payroll costs?

get the frick out of here. these bop policies with unlimited BI aren't just falling off the trees. there are fewer and fewer bop options available. op has a great policy, he's just getting a bit greedy due to being informed of his full policy. BI in general is a very difficult claim to get paid on anyways.

I’ve had 15 BI claims clients were paid on for Laura alone. Sure, they’re more expensive, but it’s the agents job to quote him out one if he’s asking. It might be out of his price range, but they definitely exist.

That's great and all, but how many do you have written at any given time? If you have 1000 and 15 were written that's crap, if you had 20 and 15 of them were paid that's worth something.
I agree with the above though, there's plenty of Agents that have their bread and butter and don't care to help with other policies. I'm not saying its most, or a majority, or a significant amount. But its not an insignificant amount.
