How this poster above is at $500 for 2 people and 2 kids is beyond me
I have 3 kids and spend under $500 on food. It is really easy if you plan meals.
But, we also eat very healthy. Many meals consist of rice/potatoes/eggs/veggies/fruit.
We save meat for the weekends usually.
And we don't spend that little to save money, it is just easy to go to the store and buy shite food, feel like shite and get fat.

I think it's because I make a lot of money and live in a city.

Maybe, but we make a lot too. I just know myself and if I get certain foods in the house and eat out all the time, I would be a fat-arse.

My 500 dollar grocery budget isn't too accurate
I have a mint category for shopping as well that I didn't mention. Sams and Walmart go to my shopping budget which happens to include a portion of groceries.
Not to mention our 500 dollar budget does get overrun many of the months. I just use it as a guide. I haven't tweaked them in awhile.

My wife is thin. I'm hoping our grocery list doesn't go up as the kids can eat all the leftovers she can't scarf down.
Also, I'll have to give up my second helpings but whatever for the children I suppose

Ah gotcha. That makes sense.
Gets hard to categorize some times. I know the feeling.

Yeah, and I refuse to go into the detail of splitting transactions
I only wish my wife could come in under budget for our clothing category JUST ONCE

35 years old married, 2 kids
Net-$18,000
Mortgage-$2,500
Cable, water, Entergy- $450
Credit Card-$4,000*
Daycare-$1,500
Lawn service-$150
*I put everything on my credit card for points. Insurance, groceries, dining out, etc. I pay bill in full every month. Dining out kills me. 4K is about average for me.
I save all money in a savings account until I either buy another investment property, or put it in stock market. I have a seperate savings account that I keep 20K in as my rainy day fund. Have never dipped into it once so I'm knocking on wood now.

what do you do for a living?

These threads always make me realize my spending on food and entertainment is ridiculously high. I budget $750 for each and I rarely fall below that. I am young and single, but if I could get my spending on those in line, I would be swimming in cash. My main goal is to not run out of cash between annual bonuses.
Mine fluctuates wildly. Some months I blow a ton on entertainment and various other expenses, other months I really don't even spend money.
I'm buying a kayak next month, but I haven't done shite this month.
although it sounds cliche, you really only live once, and it doesn't matter who is the richest guy in the cemetery. as long as you aren't burying yourself in debt and are able to put some money away, there is nothing wrong with spending and enjoying life, especially while you are young.

I can agree with that.
I know I'm not the OT rich kid that a lot of people are. I only make around 50k at age 26, and I really just started getting involved in my own retirement accounts. I have LASERS through the state, but I'm damn proud of myself for working on fully funding my Roth starting this year.

I own a service business here in BR. I won't say industry or name bc Chicken probably wouldn't like it and I like being anonymous here. I know a lot of people who read this site and I don't want them knowing my personal finances. But I couldn't care less if strangers know though. I also own rental properties in BR.
