For any of you South Louisiana folks, where are you seeing the most favorable Bank CD rates?
Asking for a friend.
Thanks.

Wouldn't you just buy them online? Fidelity has a shitload listed.

Go to bankrate.com and then the Best CD Rates section. Enter your zip code and amount of the CD, and it will give you rates. Nerdwallet.com has a similar tool.

My Vanguard Money Market is giving 5.29% 7 day SEC yield. That is getting more than most CD's I've seen. Am I missing something or not calculating something correctly?

I’m getting 5% at Capital One and 5.13% at Whitney. But I’ve moved money instead to 4 and 8 week t-bills. Although with rates likely decreasing in March, I might go in on an 18 month CD at the beginning of the year to lock in that 5%.

It’s fine, but it’s going to go down just like it went up. CDs protect the income for some savers.

Maybe he cares about keeping money in his community and is looking for a good rate at a local bank.

5.27 at Hancock Whitney for 11 months.

Not sure if it is the best but not bad.

The CD locks in its rate for the term, often a year or more. Your money market fund's rate is good today only; might go up or might do down. Many are predicting lower interest rates in the spring.
