It’s time to think about upgrading one of the vehicles due to family size, numbers and literal. Just flabbergasted with the inflation in the vehicle market. I’m scared it could get worse, so I’ll buy on the climb.

What’s the best bang for your buck; resell value, size, longevity right now? Ide buy a full size truck or larger suv.

My vote goes to the Toyota Sequoia if you need a big family vehicle.

They can be pricey and the new designs for 2023 aren't really my tastes but reliability is up there with the best.

Doug likes it too: LINK

Prices are coming down from what I’ve seen. I just sold my 2019 Tahoe last week. Could have gotten $42k easily for it 6 months ago and sold it for $36k. Everybody else monitoring the trends says the same. Maybe not in the new car dept but used cars have seemed to stabilize at this point.

Vehicle prices are starting to crash hard, I would wait it out a few months if it was me. Basically dropping 1% every week since the end of July. This will start showing up on retail soon, if anything there is room for negotiation as they know their inventory is dropping in value everyday.

Thank you very much. That’s why I came to this board. Honestly I haven’t even glanced at vehicle prices in a couple years and damn near stroked out when i see everything’s above 40k.

I do like Toyota Sequoia and Tahoes. But I wouldn’t write of a pilot or big truck.

As in supply isn’t keeping up?

If you are smart and don't care about what others think, you will buy a 2018+ Honda Odyssey. If you need AWD + Hybrid (36 city/hwy), you can get a 2021+ Toyota Sienna. Both will cost considerably less than a full-size SUV while being great people haulers (kids love minvans).

But I know this is Tigerdroppings, so folks will just down vote this recommendation and make fun of someone even thinking about driving a minivan, even when it is right choice.

I have to agree with Rick.

One of the smartest financial decisions we have made was buying a used, 2014 Sienna 2 years ago. Neither of us were excited about the purchase, but we have loved it. We purchased with 90k miles already on it, the kids and all of their friends love it and it has been incredibly comfortable for vacations.

Car dealerships for the most part borrowed money to get the vehicle at auction. In the current market they know the longer they hold on to any given vehicle the less valuable it becomes. They are more open to move the vehicle for a lower price. Don't just think you have to pay whatever they are asking like the last few years

Honestly the first cool vehicle my parents had when I was a kid was a van. The rest were hoopties. So I agree with that logic.

Wait until the end of the year. The bubble has popped and prices are steadily decreasing.

My daughter bought a 2016 Nissan Sentra a little over a week ago (80,000 miles).

She knocked $500 off the price (asked for $1k, they countered $300, we met at $500).

The car was only on the lot for 1 day (looks like a Carmax purchase that got shipped out because it was under their lot minimum price).

$8200 asking price.
Took it for $7700.

I had to get past the minivan stigma when we bought our Sienna and looking back I was an idiot (but at least a young idiot). We have a 2013 with 195k that we bought with 90k four years ago and I wouldn't trade the thing for the world; it's been a super reliable people hauler and versus a sequoia or a truck gets great mileage and has wayyyy more utility 90% of the time. With the obscene prices both of those vehicles bring right now I'd be minivan all the way and couldn't recommend a Sienna more highly.

This is just an opinion from some guy you don't know on the internet so take it FWIW.

But don't buy right now. If you can possibly wait till December (or better yet next year) then wait.

The used car market went crazy for the last two years but the bubble is going to pop and the early warning signs are already here.

At wholesale auctions, used car prices have dropped for seven weeks in a row. This week’s wholesale declines were so steep that the analysts at Black Book said it was reminiscent of declines seen at the start of the pandemic. If wholesale used car prices are dropping so much, why haven’t we seen an equally steep decline in retail prices? Well, we are just starting to.

The low end luxury car and SUV models may be the most likely to decrease. Especially the luxury cars that idiots with stimulus money went out to buy and now can not afford.

No resell but the sienna is what your looking for. Pre 2022 you can get the gas engine and you'll get 25 mapgs on highway.

If you can't stand that the next thing is a full size truck with a bedcover. We are looking at those now. Wife doesn't want another minivan but she may not have a choice. I'm not paying 60k for an suv and then get 14 mpg.

Our kids are young and they are tall as shite. They are going to look like a basketball team soon. Well outgrow an midsized suv in two years.

So I told her either a tundra or RAM with a bedcover or another sienna prehybrid

Our sienna has been amazing. I love it and would buy another in a heartbeat. One of the best purchase decisions I've made. I didn't want one either when we bought it. We've had it ten years and has 140k hard arse miles on it. Everything still works except where she hit things.

I bought a Pacifica for the family last week, 2019, ~40K miles and am really happy with it. Was anti minivan forever but guess what, I’m usually not the one driving it anyways and my wife loves it as do the boys.

Got one for wife, extremely happy with vehicle. Would buy a second for myself if I found the right deal.

The GX is a Lexus rebadged Land cruiser Prado. Land cruisers are tanks
