Are you actively trying to expand your routes?
Not right now. It’s at a good size and good pace at this time. It’s hard to find employees. I was lucky that mine stayed when we were super slow during Covid. Or I guess I should say, one stayed and the other came back. I currently have someone filling machines 5 days a week. The one down day one of my employees is heading to the bank. The bank trip takes about 3-4 hours itself.

What's the best way to track inventory?
My card readers are through Canteloupe. That’s about the only way to track 84 machines. It isn’t exact, but it’s the best way I’ve seen.

I don't have the money, knowledge, motivation, time, etc. to get into the vending machine business, but I am absolutely fascinated by this thread. I keep checking every few hours to see what updates I've missed.
Ocean can you keep us updated through the years on your vending journey? Also maybe send some pics of your rigs.

Why canteloupe over nayax? All the youtubers I've been following go with nayax

I'll post some pictures in a few days. We're going to go install the card readers on Friday.
It's been fascinating learning about all of this. I highly recommend youtube -- happy vending on there is great. It's crazy how well designed/built these older machines are. You can do just about anything with them. And if you learn how to repair them yourself you can find really cheap machines on craigslist/facebook

Pretty simple…they acquired the company I was using but kept me at the same percentages.

One other thing…You said you were at an Army facility or something Ocean? Always understand, if you’re in a government facility you can be kicked out at any time if a particular type of owner wants to do the vending.
Look up the Randolph Sheppard Act of 1936.

I have one facility that has shitty cell reception…one of the first machines I had legit break down was at this facility. I would watch YouTube in the parking lot, then walk inside to attempt to fix. Walk back out…walk back in. Some helpful things on YouTube.

Went today and installed 4 of the card readers. Three other machines are USI snack machines that we need to upgrade from MPC to MDB. Any knowledge on this?

I am absolutely zero help on that one.
That’s good on your card readers. One of the hospitals I have machines in…tried putting card readers on them and some of those can’t get enough cell reception. So since then, that always concerns me on some locations.

This thread has captivated me. How many machines do you think it’d take make a worthwhile profit? Given they are all in good location.

Yeah I was pretty worried about the cell reception since military installations are notorious for shotty reception. Luckily nayax allows you to choose Verizon or at&t and Verizon works well in the building

That’s good. WiFi is an option but the hospital wanted to charge me. I’m a tight wad and passed.

I have 84 machines. Bought a warehouse during Covid. Warehouse also has two store fronts on it that I lease to a nail salon and hair salon. I use that monthly income to pay utilities on building. So my numbers may be a bit different, considering my vending doesn’t pay utilities.
My 84 machines do around $25-$30k in gross sales a month. November and December will run around $35k. I spend about 18% on labor. 50% or so goes back into product. I pay myself 20% on most months. That’s usually around $6500 or so. I put $500 a week into my emergency repair stash that I do not include in my weekly numbers(sorry IRS). So if I didn’t care about spending my own money for repairs, I could make a bit more.

Happened to run across this article on CNBC and thought that you might find it interesting.
This 31-year-old turned his side hustle into a $300,000 vending machine business

Quick update: we went and restocked the machines. People have definitely been using them more due to the card readers.
We found an awesome vending repair company that is going to convert 3 of the snack machines to MDB, install the card readers, and install the compressor on the broken soda machine. So we'll have 8 fully loaded machines with card readers
