Any legitimate ways to make money online?

Asking for a friend. Ha
But seriously, I find myself with a lot of free time at home. I was looking to pick up a new income stream outside of my current job. I was wondering if anyone knows any good opportunities for making money working online?

Are you a chick? You could show your cleavage on Twitch.

Not a chick and doubt anyone wants to see my hairy chest

Whats your professional background? you can pick up small contract jobs on the side pretty easily. Like if you code, there's whole websites dedicated to these types of small projects looking for help

Not a coder, but I work on the BA side of Salesforce

Have you looked into online surveys?

You can get paid to run propaganda on forums.

Yes. I make a few grand per month off affiliate websites and I have friends making $2,000 - $3,000 per day with various businesses online.
It's not easy and it takes a lot of time but it has been worth it to me.

I've been looking into doing some online tutoring. Still doing research but english tutoring online seems to pay well.

How did you get into this? Is it something a noob like myself can get into?

Yes. But you really have to go "all in". I had to learn wordpress, SEO and affiliate marketing from scratch.
I'm still not great at any of the three to be honest. With no background, it will take you at least a year to understand what is going on.
It's just a hobby that pays.

If you have to ask this question I think it will be a long road for you, but of course there are ways.
You can trade stocks online. You could start a business and sell stuff.... meet a need rather than a want, like clothes etc. You could start a social media empire (which is likely the best method to start with). You can make money with brand deals or just adsense via instagram/youtube/facebook. The list is essentially endless of how to make money using the internet.

I'm making an assumption here, one that may be wrong, but this is the kind of question that someone asks when they magically want money to appear for doing nothing.
I made $20k last year flipping shoes. That's making money online, but it took countless hours of sourcing, listing, posting, shipping, etc. I run an apparel brand that pulls in $2k/month. It's small, but it's literally run entirely online and via print fulfillers. It's also tremendous work. I saw an opportunity the other day on Amex careers as they were hiring remote workers for 100% commission based roles around selling corporate meeting packages. Maybe try that.
That's the long answer. The short answer is work. Pick something and do it. It's gonna suck, but you'll learn. Or just drive Uber.

On the contrary, I find I have more free time that is spent watching TV and doing other frivolous things. I am looking to pick up more work, not magically make money watching cat videos. Just looking for ideas on what to pursue that is worth pursing.

Why does it have to be online? Plenty of money to be made in the three dimensional real world around you. Microbusinesses with no employees--you need to capitalize on a skill or talent, or provide a service that people need. The gamut runs from gardening/lawn services to beef jerky at a farmer's market to music or swim lessons.
Anything that generates cash is going to take work, online or in person.

Online is preferable, as I have to be home to watch my kids while my wife is in school. Hence, I have a lot of free time around the house without much to do.

Your time might be better spend improving your skill set in your primary field--ie, take online classes in your field that will improve your job skills. If you have a job, it will make you a better employee. If you are currently out of the workforce, it may make it easier to re-enter.

I think if you are looking to one day start your own business or side gig use your time to research that
Then put a plan into action to actually do something that can earn you money in your spare time.
