So I'm paying a tad under $15k per year for what amounts to a terrible plan that I paid about $4k per year almost 10 years ago. I am self-employed. Barack Obama and democrats did a number on me in the name of half way socialized medicine.

I've read a little about medical cost sharing programs. Is anyone a part of one and have any comments about it?

That $15k is getting me a few wellness visits this year (knock on wood) and a decent prescription plan for 3 prescriptions.

I know a few people with them and they seem to like them fine. Some things you'll have to be reimbursed on so you'll need some cash and I think things like MRIs have to be approved, but overall they seem to be a good alternative.

I keep saying the best health insurance is to take care of yourself

eat healthy
cardiovascular exercise most days of the week (HIIT)
keep weight down
don't smoke
drink very little alcohol
don't take unnecessary chances
get enough sleep

I try to live this way...most of the time

I do not disagree. Granted - I would like to be able to fall back on something if, God forbid, someone in my family is diagnosed with cancer or other illness which expensive to treat.

The Trump admin has approved small businesses getting together for insurance exchanges.

The Republican Insurance commissioner in BR has all the details.

With how high deductibles are, it really makes sense to enroll in one of the cost sharing plans.

My wife and I are going to be 6 months without health insurance due to changing jobs. We signed up for medishare. For our family of 3, it's only $202 a month.

Basically, you pay everything up to whichever amount you choose (our plan is 10,500 I believe) and then after that they take over. What is nice is that you are able to get the much cheaper cash price for any medical services you want.

Is this a high deducible plan? Have you looked plans with an HSA option?

Oh yeah. That's why it is so absurd.

I've got 53.88 against my 2018 deductible so far, which is 4800 pp.

I guess my skepticism is: we aren't talking about BCBS or Aetna or Humana. We are probably talking about some 20 employee po dunk office in Peoria, IL. That comfort of having at least a good idea that BCBS isn't going anywhere. But I think for $10k less a year or more, I don't mind being a skeptic.

Is this for a family? We are paying about $800 for two healthy adults for basically no coverage.
