$255k note on apartment
Where the f in NYC is this
That caught my eye too. Other than a shoebox in the corner of a burned out crackhouse in the Bronx, I have no idea.

How does she qualify for a rent controlled apartment?
I have friends in SF that have been living in the same rent controlled apartment for 15+ years and pay $1500 a month on a $200k/year salary. Every couple of years their landlord offers them anywhere from $10-50k to leave, but the cheap rent is too good to pass up.
Rent control is not about qualifying for it based on income, but more about restricting how much rent increases per year or if rent can increase on a yearly basis. It’s a terrible deal for the landlord, doesn’t solve rent prices in the city, and allows for apartments to fall into disrepair, however it’s awesome if you are renting the place…

She gets a 52,000 bonus, says she puts half into 401k and her company matches 50%? That would be well over the annual contribution limits no?
This is absolute bullshite. No one gets paid that much to work like that. It's not 2021. They've cut most shite like that out.
Amazon and Google might pay you with that much equity and base but you're working 80 hours a week.
The description is some BS start up and no way they're paying that kind of base salary for a 30 year old, even in SF.

go to the cafeteria and grab myself a sandwich, a cup of chicken noodle soup, and some egg salad. I also grab a bunch of pastries (butter croissant, blueberry muffin, and a loaf of pumpkin bread)

My alarm rings. I groggily sign into Bank of America because I'm expecting to get paid today. I'm feeling anxious about having only $3 in my checking account. I did get paid today, and my balance is now a reasonable amount.
This can't be real.

I didn't read entire article.
I will say I've worked with some clients over the years that have pretax earnings of 300K plus, and live paycheck to paycheck with basicall nothing saved.

My work has gotten to a point where I'm writing more docs and dealing with people more than solving interesting technical problems. I find talking to people exhausting and much prefer to just sit down and write code. I'm also scared that my peers at other companies are outpacing me technically. I want to quit, but I feel uncertain about leaving without having another job lined up in this economy
Holy shot is she for real? She wants to be in tech but doesn’t want to do functional or technical specs? And she’s mad because people who want to torpedo her bad design can just do so via Google sheet comment?
Welcome to big tech.
She only has a job because there is insufficient structure in that company to hold shitty employees accountable…but she wants to leave because there is too much structure. THAT is the Silicon Valley work ethic I know and hate. People like her go from start up to start up and never actually do anything their entire career. Once the company matures enough for a corporate structure to emerge, it becomes uncool and people leave.
And she spends money like a 12 year old would if you just handed them their mom’s credit card. FFS save some cash while you have income. Pack things away before they figure out you are not contributing to the company. Once they lay you off in this economy, you won’t easily get another job with that salary. I sure as hell wouldn’t hire her.

I have some major issues with Millionaire Next Door, and I am not very religious. But the chick in the article needs a copy of that book and she needs Jesus. Holy shite.
I don’t think it’s fake either. I legit work with some people like this.

What do they spend it all on? Are they like compulsive shoppers or gamblers or something?

Compulsive shoppers. Don’t cook for themselves so they eat out every meal. Very nice car(s). Lots of expensive vacations and travel
