Tulane has a very large alumni base in NYC and unique finance programs like Burkenroad Reports and the energy trading program (employers recruit directly from both of those programs). It's not a target school, but I think that it's about as good as one can get for finance opportunities outside of the target schools.

That's still an audit background though, and LSU's program is very highly respected. I've never met an auditor with no form of accounting/finance degree or training.

Well, considering any college senior should start their job search right in the fall, it sounds like almost everyone that handled their business graduated with a job.

Good for people you know. Most college graduates I know didn't have it go as smooth. There's a process that goes with the search, and right now, it generally takes a bit of luck.

College fairs are BS currently. For engineers it consists of HR people who don't know a lick about engineering telling you to go their website. Few are hiring, and most are there just to go through the motions. There's also internships and co/ops, but if they don't have a position to fill (which most don't), it doesn't matter.

This isn't some dream problem. There's little work for recent graduates regardless of major. Engineers have it better than most. But that doesn't mean there aren't a lot out there struggling to get positions.

I didn't know so many people went to college to be insurance salesmen until I was a senior.

So did they graduate in the audit program at LSU? Take required classes for CPA exam? You made it sound like there are auditors running around with Music degrees

Yeah I mean if you're an auditor and you're not a CPA, its pretty much not possible to be doing very well career wise. You either can sign off on shite or you can't. And since you have to take the classes one way or the other to sit for the test...dunno.

I think its also worth noting that the vast majority of students aren't paying anywhere near 40k per year to go to school at Tulane.

Scholarships are given out like candy (especially if you are a Louisiana resident).

Yep, they even gave me a scholarship. I didn't even get any $ from LSU outside of the TOPS tuition and stipend.

As far as its been communicated to me, that's generally the case with most private schools. The median discount at TU may be higher, IDK.

I have kind of a narrow view bc I can only speak for myself and my experiences at GT but what you said couldnt be further from the truth. Job fairs are a gold mine and I've never known anyone who went to one of these and actively talked to companies and didnt receive multiple interview requests from them.

Are you sure it doesn't tell you a lot about the work ethic of our younger generations? Cause that is what it tells me.

The world doesn't need 75 art history grads from LSU every year. Tell me why I am wrong about that.

People go into these flunkie arse majors because they are easy, not because they are really smart and just enjoy art.

Would also add, if you look back at history, how many great "arts" people, whether they be musicians, painters, scuplters, etc. went to a formal 4 year college? Like 0.0001% of an already small group of people? I don't think this says anything about "this country's appreciation for the arts."

I agree, one of my upcoming interviews is because I met the recruiter at a job fair and then continued contact with him until I finally met with the partner who is recruiting our school. It is all about relationships and keeping up with your contacts. They meet tons of people, make sure you stand out and keep in contact.

If my future child tries to go to college for this, they will not get assistance from me for this very reason.

You are either good at this shite or not, and I seriously doubt what art technique/information you pay 10s of thousands of dollars for is worth it. I also suspect the same information about art could be picked up from other artists in the community for basically free if you run with the right people.
