Gammons basically said their owner refuses to pay draft picks, sounded promising.

McCourt pays his wife over a half a million dollars a month as part of their divorce, among other things

dont know if he signs or not. I dont know enough about the situation, but they are always saying the Dodgers are i a slight financial crisis

That is exactly what may have happened. They have to pick someone since you can't trade picks and you can't just pass. So you pick the one guy all the experts say may just be the toughest sign in the whole draft, and just get the pick back next year when you have the money.

Actually they may not be able to.

not trying to be a negatiger but i'm pretty sure frank mccourt can pay if he wants to even considering his current arse-rape of a divorce.

They declined to offer arbitration to a couple guys just because it would have given them more draft picks. They have no interest in spending money in the draft right now.

Frank McCourt may not own the team in a few years, who knows where his allegiances lie.

I agree with LE. It's probably going to take more money than his slot is worth, possibly double. LA us notably stingy towards rookies so I like our chances.

I love our chances. Next year's draft is supposed to be the deepest draft in over ten years so the Dodgers basically passing on the pick to have two next year makes a lot of sense.

yeah, if you want to look at it that way.

The Dodgers owner just got taken to the bank in a nasty divorce, they arent big on spending money now(even though they are a "big market" team).

they mentioned on MLB network that it may take 3mil signing bonus to get him to sign, and if thats the case, I see him at LSU.

They also refused to go through arbitration on three current guys, which shows their cheapness.

He's gone guys. Why would he not? To come to LSU and get drafted at 15 in 3 years?

and as someone mentioned, if you dont sign your 1st round pick this year, you get to choose again in that same slot next year.

next years draft is a lot deeper, supposedly.

so there are a few things going for us. But LAD could also have a hard target on this kid, and be ready to pay him the money.

Yea i definitely agree. I heard that at the beginning of the draft coverage and instantly liked our chances of getting Lee to BR.

here is the Dodgers recent draft history:

2010 Zach Lee RHP McKinney (Texas) HS 28
2008 Ethan Martin RHP Stephens County H.S., Toccoa, Ga. 15
2007 Chris Withrow RHP Midland (Texas) Christian HS 20
2006 Clayton Kershaw LHP Highland Park HS (Dallas) 7
2006 Avery Morris RHP Motlow State CC 26

and they already have young Ely who is playing really well. wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't sign. LAD also has a top 15 farm system that lacks offense. take it fwiw.

Isn't that nasty divorce still going on? Seems I heard Colin Cowherd talking about this just a week or so ago...that it wasn't even clear who would own the team in a year or two.

Read the thread maybe? Everyone has a price and the Dodgers might not be willing to meet it.

Lee won't sign. Just my opinion.
