Why are baseball players allowed to go directly from high school to the pros, but football and basketball players aren't?

Yeah he did...as did players before him like Moses Malone, Darryl Dawkins and a whole bunch of others.

But correct me if I'm wrong--haven't they now changed that rule? Don't basketball players have to play at least one year of college ball before making the jump to the pros?

My friend's nephew, Greg Monroe, mentioned to me that he would have gone straight to the pros from Helen Cox if he could.

So why is it still okay for baseball players and not basketball or football players?

True enough, I just don't pay enough attention to basketball I suppose.

In any case, regardless.....shite happens. Good luck to you Zach, you only get this opportunity once, so get the most you can out of it.

I really don't get the Miles bashing out of this, seems like a waste of time imo.

Sigh.

My problem with it, is the system blows.

The deadline should be around July 1-15.

This business of MLB teams swooping in at the last second when a kid is already enrolled, in fall camp, and two days from classes--sucks arse.

Don't get the Miles bashing? In 2 months you'll see the light.

This. I don't blame Lee, or our coaches. Lee had expressed his desire to play both sports at LSU, and I believe him. But the money was just too good. No problem with that, it's the timing that needs to change.

Well, that blows for LSU and Miles. Lee better live up to the hype. Many an 18 year old phenom has taken the MLB big money carrot and sunken into the abyss of the minor league.

They didn't invite Garret back. We lost Lee but are you saying Miles should have figured a way to compete with the 5 mil they offered Lee?

He made the right decision. No one would turn down $5.25 million to ride the pine at LSU for a couple of years with a coach who will be canned while he's here. Good luck Zach. LSU is in deep shite with Jordan "the Sack" Jefferson

I hope this is a wake up call to LSU football recruiting. Stop pursuing dual sport athletes if there is a strong possibility the athlete will go pro before setting foot on the football field. LSU was aware of this possibility the second they started recruiting Zach. Best of luck to Zach and hopefully it will open the door for another all american QB to commit, or switch commitments.

Can't blame the kid. Only a fool would turn down the largest draft pick contract ever offered by the Dodgers.

U know, I was pissed at the kid at first. but if someone gave me millions to play a game i love I can't say I would turn it down to goto the best school in the world. <swallows anger> I wish him the best but I hope the frickING Dodgers never win a world series again. I hated LA before and I fricking loathe them even more now. <Whooosah!> I'm have to goto church twice to absolve myself for the things i said when i heard the news. as always, Geaux Tigers!
