"Your Turn" Offense

The "Your Turn" offense is really what is happening to the offense. This phenomenon is described as "Everyone on the offense is taking turns screwing up." When 10/11 players on offsnse do what they are supposed to, plays do not work. So on each play it's "your turn" to screw up your assignment, and every player takes a turn. The offensive woes cannot be thrown totally at Jefferson's feet, he has had plenty of help screwing up on offense. Each receiver has dropped passes, backs have missed blocks, lineman have been false starting and holding. But when everyone else does their part, the QB has to do his. Jordan Jefferson is an adequate QB, we've all seen what he can do. He needs help. He isn't getting it as much as he needs to have it to be successful. That's why our offense looks as bad as it does. And since our defense has been playing lights out, it's hard to blame the coaches for shutting it down and playing conservative when we have a lead.
There's a short little sawed off coach in Tuscaloosa who coaches the exact same way, but no one on this board seems to remember that. IMO, when he was here, Saban felt that he the offense got to 20 points, then that's all he needed. His defense would then take care of the rest. No coach has ever held down our offense as much as Saban did in his time here.
Rewind to 2004. Why did Marcus Randall play over Jamarcus Russel? Because Saban knew that Marcus Randall would not lose the game for you, even if he might not win it for you. The team went 9-2, won every game it should, and pulled out a nail biter in Florida. The losses were to Auburn and Georgia.

When that many players are screwing up, it's a coaching issue.

We are also playing a "Your Turn" Defense, but everybody is taking turns making plays.

I'd kill to have Marcus Randall QBing this team right now.

The problem is... even BAD Qbs with NO help can throw for at least 100 yards. Stare down one reciever then tuck and run is not college quality.

Team went 9-3. Lost to Iowa to a hail Mary.

JJ---90% Everybody Else---10%

Some of the receiver problems are JJ's fault. The problem with JJ's passes are that they are not very catchable. JR had the same problem, not much touch. JJ just seems to throw to spots and not receivers and often as hard as he possibly can. The interception to Toliver was too high and hard for an easy reception. Some of the passes to Shep are the same. The guy is just learning the position, make it easy for him to catch it in stride.
Some of the false starts have to do with cadence, which is also on JJ. The QB has to be the leader of the offense and take responsibility.
People see JL as a better leader because of the resilience he showed in the 2008 adversity. He took the losses upon himself and acted like the leader of the offense. You don't need to be an apologist for JJ, he does that enough on his own. I hate that apparent smug half confusion / frown he carries on his face every time things screw up.
He is a negative person. The offense has become a negative offense and the fans have become negative fans. We are 4 - 0 and it is embarrassing to be a LSU fan.

of course it's a coaching issue. hell, they are responsible for the teams performance. that is not to say that good coaches do not have this kind of shite happen, esp with younger players or veteren players that aren't really leaders. blaming everything on the coaches is wrong.

Part of this is a coaching issue, but the Coaches are not the one's on the field. As long as the best 11 are on the field, the coaches have done most of their jobs. It's the players who are not playing well. It's still early in the season and we have a number of people playing new positions. But the PLAYERS have to win the games.
When Hard Knocks did the Kansas City Chiefs, Herman Edwards, who I love as a personality, just not a play by play guy, had a great quote. He said that in football, you will be forced at times to make plays one on one in games, and YOU HAVE TO WIN those matchups. The way he said it was similar to his other famous quotes about playing to win. But very true, the players have to win, the coach can only do so much.
Do we have the best coaching? No.
DO we have the best players? No.
Do we have enough to win the whole shooting match? Yes.

This is where I'm at. Run and play defense has won championships in the past. I'm frustrated that the offense isn't as good as we know it can be, but why are we so quick to concede that UF/BAMA/Arky are better than us?
