Ahh, got it.
I turned on WBRZ last night at 10 to see what they might have about the LSU Camp going on and Rickey Jefferson's commitment, but they had NOTHING.
I'd like more recruiting Coverage. Advocate is getting better, WAFB is fair...

Awesome. I thought the Jefferson story broke this a.m. but either way you won't get much breaking news on Sunday.

I know Dig was trying the circulate more away from campus. For the % of expansion have you seen an increase in the % of advertising that are business away from campus? I always thought that would be an issue.
As far as content. Like a previous poster already stated, sports will drive anything if it's on campus. Breaking news, good headlines and stories to back them up, something more than the general weekly article that every publication is reproducing. Harder for Dig to break news being a weekly printing though

I would like to see more effort put into reporting. As in getting over to LSU & actually doing interviews & story lines above & beyond the basic ABC's. For instance, during baseball season, what we get every game is a few quotes from the players, a standard quote from CPM & that is it. Nothing from the visiting teams, either coaches or players, & I'd particularly like to hear comments from coaches from out of conference and the immediate area. Coach Dunn made an outstanding contribution to the team this yr, yet he was never interviewed the whole season. As for football, check out the different story lines & interviews that the Times Picayune does, from N.O. and compare them with the standard vanilla ones the Advocate provides. It's not a coincidence that the Picayune breaks more stories than the Advocate ever does. Its reporters make the effort to get quality information.

Couldn't tell you for sure, but I've noticed a large increase in ads from off campus. Not sure if it's proportional though.

We're experimenting with the blog to supplement the weekly. That's our biggest challenge. During football, our features are strong, but we battle with our Wednesday print date.

You'd like to hear about those teams, or what those teams have to say about LSU?

Good point. We did a preview on him but nothing in season. I think he did some radio interviews though. I'd bet someone did something on him. But your general point is that a key part of the team got relatively ignored, and that's valid.

Myself, though it's more of a discussion than a poll. I'm trying to learn and have a good conversation on a slow Monday.

I listen to the shite out of AFR on 104.5 and sometimes I catch Charlie and jimmy's show around lunchtime.
I havent read it in a couple months, but I usually am a daily visitor to Dandy Don. They put up a good bit of information that generally you can find on the internet or other outlets, but DD puts it all in one place. Its a quick and easy read and links are littered throughtout the blog.
I havent read DIG since it was TW and i worked there back in college. Even then i didnt read that much.

Great point. It's nice to have the info aggregated in one spot.

I read LSUFootball.net because it puts nearly every article concerning LSU, and the SEC, local and otherwise, on the site for great convenience. It also has the most extensive national tv schedule I've seen anywhere.
As far as local media is concerned, I believe it has always pandered to LSU to the point that great sportswriters of the past have been run off for exhibiting the slightest criticism of LSU.

stewie...what happened to your piece on money spent with recruiting services? Looked like you were on a witch hunt but then I never saw the follow up.
eta...as far as Dandy Don goes, he goes way back to when there wasn't anything else on the Internet outside of the old geaux.com, which was mainly just a message board. I still contend he was one of the first "bloggers" on the Internet, although the format wasn't called blog back then. The info available now has surpassed what they can do, if I were Scott I'd turn it into a tribute site with links to other LSU content...but I certainly respect him trying to keep it going.

-Would like to learn more about the players & their stories. Upbringing, what drives them, etc.
-anything that can showcase their personalities. The Mo isom vs. pieces as an example. Someone young is easier to connect that some of these old grouches.
-also I find articles interesting when teammates talk about one another. For instance, Russell Shepard comment on say, teams fastest player, strongest, hardest worker, team jokester, etc.
Basically just indepth, behind the scenes type things. Honestly I don't even click on x's & o's articles any more, because most of the guys don't know anything. It's not even worth reading.

So you want more criticism of LSU?
I'll say this: LSU protects itself very well from criticism. That goes from in house with a sports information team that does its job very well to outside of campus, where advertisers fork up no moneys for anti-LSU publications/writers/etc.

Not unwarranted criticism, just a little more objectivity. Journalistic integrity is based upon this principle. Anyone can write fluff.
