I wonder if the result would have been different had Saban announced the week of Arky game instead...
he shouldn't have been allowed to coach our bowl game.

Disbelief and denial was the reaction. Impression was not favorable based on his resume and accomplishments as a head coach.

Similar to yours. A hard nosed, blue collar, verbally abusive task master with a chip on his shoulder.

I was on a rig in the Gulf of Mexico watching ESPN. The guy watching TV with me was from Oklahoma, a cowboy fan. His reaction stumped me, "What the hell is LSU thinking"? I replied, "Hold on friend just what the hell are you trying to say"? That’s when he turned to me with a big smile and said, "I give it 4 seasons". "That’s how long it will take for him to screw up what Saban has built". In his opinion Les was a good recruiter and a even better bull shitter. He felt Miles was a pretty good coach but his program severely lacked discipline. He complained that their players consistently under achieved and played unmotivated at times. He pointed to the Oklahoma game as a prime example of how much talent Miles had brought to OSU but could do very little with what he had.
For the first couple of seasons I felt my old Okie Buddy just was just sore that we whisked Coach Miles away to Baton Rouge. I believed that OSU just could not supply “The Hat” with the talent pool he needed to succeed. Now that a few years have passed I hear that damn conversation rings in my ears every time I watch LSU or read this damn board. I would say I feel deceived by Les’s first couple seasons in Baton Rouge but I can’t say I wasn’t warned. I hate that guy from Oklahoma, I can only hope and pray something bad happened to him.

I thought he was black.........then I saw his picture and I realized I was confusing Les with someone else.............but I was never certain who that someone else was.

I was hopeful LM could continue what Saban started.

my first impression was i thought his teams were very well coached and he paid alot of attention to detail
i looked up how ok st ranked in special teams and penalties (a sign of a detailed oriented coach), and was happy with what I saw assuming jimbo stuck around and he landed a top notch d-coord
he lost jimbo, has never really replaced pelini and looks clueless

And you knew this as soon as the announcement was made (i.e. first impression)? You must be a closet Oklahoma St. fan.

yes
i looked things about him before he was hired
just because you didn't hear his name in the coaching search doesn't mean nobody did

why is that so shocking to you?

read and learn

UPDATE #2, 1/1/05 by Jeff Quinton
The Times-Picayune is reporting Les Miles is being offered the job with details finalized as early as Wednesday. Thanks to commenter mouse for the heads-up.
ESPN.com has more information.
UPDATE #3, 1/1/05 by Dave Frey
Not so fast, my friend! It COULD be Les Miles, but the source of these reports is a Baton Rouge talkshow host named Jimmy Ott who is NOT the most reliable source in the world. I think these major media outlets picking this up because Ott said it is highly irresponsible and could leave a lot of egg on a lot of faces next week. At this point, I'd put the odds of it being Miles at around 50%.

Dave- From the Daily Oklahoman article above about the Les Miles interview, it seems that LSU has already conducted three phone interviews. Any in person interviews?
so yes, i researched miles before he was named the head coach at lsu

why? because i am one of the few who isn't lying about much hated him and didn't want him from the start
his resume wasn't great, but we weren't going to give petrino the power he wanted, butch davis didn't really want the job, del rio & gruden were not leaving
for the type of coach we (LSU) wanted, he was a good choice
just because you didn't follow the search doesn't mean others didn't

I was tailgating in the Vet School motor home lot talking with my brother in law and said that he would bring the program down to a mediocre(sp?) program. He would bring us down to a .500 team. We aren't quite there yet.
