I know Jim is not the best but his voice reminds me of my childhood and listening to the tiger baseball games with my pops in the glory years. Wouldn't seem right without him

Jim's OK, just have to remember he is from Nort Loserannie...He gets confused easily and wears glasses, probably needs thicker glasses, but he is entertaining, or else no one would be talking about him!!!

Get over yourselves!!!

The man has served well for decades. Still MUCH better than any other sec announcer. Give em a listen and see. Enjoy the big lead and quit cryin fir Christ sake!

This precisely. I live in Missisippi and as I was driving home I took my blue tooth out of my ear (LSU baseball via geauxzone via iPhone) to see what was happening with the moo state vs gumps game and the moo state broadcast is dry, really dry. Jim does make mistakes but atleast he isn't dry.

When you have listened to Jim as long as I have you begin to understand "Hawthorne" language.

Long fly ball means it was caught by the second basemen
That ball is way back, way back means an outfielder is going to catch it.

Took me a while but I can speak fluent Hawthorne and once I learned that I got to where I enjoy ole Jim

Well, many calls begin with "it's popped up" followed by a pause. The "pop ups" end up being out of play, playable in foul territory, playable in the IF or OF or homers.

When he says popped up, I just cross my fingers and hope for the best

I grew up idolizing Jim Hawthorne always thought he was great for LSU! Much rather listen to him than them two bums on CBS for the football games!

Geez, would some of you just lay of Hawthorne? Goodness.

Yes, he seems to get bored or whatever it may be but for goodness sake, it's like some of you think you never get words jumbled in your brain before you try to say them.

"Hey, the bats have really started to heat up. We've had a bunch of shutout games in a row! Guess I'll pick on Hawthorne just to do it."

Some of you need to get a life.

Agreed. I've always said I'd take Hawthorn over some of these national guys like brent musburger or verne lundquist. At least he roots for LSU.

I have always enjoyed Hawthorne. He is much better than a bunch of SEC local announcers.

Just so I'm clear, you would prefer to have an announcer whose voice is entertaining, but who can't correctly articulate the game for you over someone with a dry voice who understands the game and can call it in a way that doesn't make you scratch your head every 20 seconds?

I would rather have someone who roots for LSU than any of the national guys who favor Bama and Florida. Verne Lundquist makes me fricking sick and makes more old man mistakes than Hawthorne ever has. He worships Saban.

The voice of the tigers is suppose to root for LSU numb nuts, but that doesn't mean he is good. He has been doing it for a long time yada yada yada. When he does baseball games you can not even follow what's going on!!

So you think the only choices LSU has for its play by play guy is Hawthorne or some national guy like Verne Lunquist?

Clearly you disagree.

Like I said, he gets bored or whatever the case may be. I'm not a Hawthorne defender, I rarely listen to him to be honest, but it's pretty sad when "fans" have to run to tell complete strangers on a message board about some blundered call he made.

Somebody forcing you to listen to him? Get over it already.

There are other ways to follow what's going on in the game.

No, I'm good. When someone dishes out personal attacks because I like an announcer, that's bullshite. Class act.
