and scheme

our scheme is not built to get sacks or limit yardage. it's too zone based

LSU has all the makings of a dominate D. Good interior pressure, so far great run stuffers, the ability to put pressure with 4 or 5, and a cover corner who scares qbs.

what do you make of the 2nd half of hte UNC game?

So you like total yards..........Got ya.

Don't know if the Tigers will excell in this area without a balanced offense. Most D's who lead in these stats have an offense who controls the TOP.

Tackles for loss we will be up there.

don't sleep on MSU or AU

and don't count out UF on improving their offense at some point. meyer did it in 2005, so there is some precedent. i'm not saying it is likely (they have looked horribly bad), but it is possible

#1 problem was youth. #2 problem was first game cramps.........lot of guys were gased because of the offenses inability to get 1st downs............#3 problem was confidence. By the midpoint in the 4th quarter, the LSU D was confused, tired, and doubting themselves.

What about the 1st 3 quarters? Take away the 1 long pass and the numbers look pretty good.

In regards to defensive weaknesses, we have coverage issues between the LB's and safeties.

You are in denial if you haven't seen this.

I also worry about size when it comes to the better rushing teams, esp. Alabama.

They may drive the ball down our throats, then hit the seam between the LB and safety.

So what team can claim dominance with the opponents they faced?

Come on guys..........you play a game each week.........Yeah LBs and Safeties have botched coverages many times thus far.........its also the only spot on D where we are breaking in youth.

You can't take each performance and degrade a 135 outing because of who we played. That kind of consistency takes a good defense regardless of opponent.

Look at LSU's top 3 D's of the past and the produced similar stats after 2 games.

talent development

the only position that hasnt developed has been the fricking qb position where we have the wrong guy for the job coaching that position.

I saw development from one game to the next already this year. Loston, claiborne and Taylor all looked better after week one.

D-line looks miles ahead of last years unit and its only been 2 games.

Wr were actually getting past the 1st down marker on the 3rd down throws. Unlike the unc game. Only if our qb had better throws.

Sheppard was a 3 star in highschool an dis now an all american. No talent development my arse.

we allowed 400+ yards of passing. far from dominant

2003, 2004, and 2006 didn't give up a 400 yard passer in the first 2 games

Nope again how does that affect the overall 14 game season?

You make the biggest jump from week 1 to week 2. I saw it on D. If you didn't then you just want to bitch.

This week our gameplan will be the same as last against Vandy.

Mullen doesn't have an interior running game. He likes to use bubble screens and short passes as runs. The qb is fresh and hasn't played in Tiger Stadium. I predict 185 total yards this week for MSU.

Nobody has mentioned that every summer the best QB prostects in the country go to the Manning Camp at Nichols State. I know the Mannings don't have warm regards for LSU but at least these great prospects are close. Maybe they could come check out the campus?

well, we knew they were going ot pass the ball. He threw for 400 yards. The 96 TD was only one play, but even if u take that away, he had a 300 yard passing game.

Im not saying we dont have a good defense. I like the talent we have there.

Im not sure Im ready to call them elite.

Vandy wasnt a test, and vs UNC, well, we really didnt prove to be elite, at all. At times, yes. But in the end we gave up over 400 yards of offense to a mediocre team.

We dominated Vandy. They have horrible athletes. Though i hate to see some RB on a team like that bust for a 50+ yard run.

i admit other than essentially 1 play, i liked what i saw against vandy

if we dominate MSU like that, i'll start to believe

He actually gained almost 180 yards on 2 pass plays.

I'm not calling them elite just yet either, but I do feel more confident than any other defense since 2006. That 2006 D got F'd up by injuries. 2007 was also on pace after 6 games to be retarded statistically.

I still love what I'm seeing compared to other SEC D's thus far.

Sure it will be easy after 3 games if 2 of em against SEC opponents you held to under 180.

Against MSU, Mullen will try to attack the middle of the D with the pass......TE's, RB's sneaking out of backfield, angle routes........I think Sheppard gets him a INT for a possible TD this week.

yeah me too.

but we have to stop other teams offenses.

ie

Noel Devine

Bama's 2 headed beast at RB. Their heady QB, and decent WRs.

ARK passing game featuring Mallet

Florida offense that will eventually start clicking

Auburn finally with a competent QB it looks like

then even Masoli and Ole Miss at the end of the year.

those games will define this defense. IMO we are better suited to handle the spread teams. A team like Bama that can pound the ball could give us fits.

Nice test but again he likes to stretch it to the sidelines........that plays into our hands

I don't see UF being able to convert short yardage all year.
