What do you think is/are the reason(s) for Burrow's statistically inferior season thus far (compared to Etling)? Not trolling, asking seriously.

Burrow - 7.3 YPA, 53% completion, 122 rating
Etling - 9.0 YPA, 60% completion, 152 rating

I know you feel like drops have been abnormally high, but what else? Is a slightly worse running game this year having that much of an impact?

If Burrow is so much better, when are his stats going to actually reflect that. As of now they reflect the opposite.

I think people are tearing down Etling while propping up Burrow at the same time

They both at this point are hardnosed gamers that will keep you in the game but not blow anyone away either with their play

I think Burrow may show us differently, but to this pont he hasnt

I was just thinking about this the other day. I think they are very similar. Let me explain.

Burrow I think is definitely better at recognizing defenses and calling audibles better than Etling. He is also a better runner with the football.

One advantage I will give Etling over Burrow is throwing the ball down field. Etling wasn't the greatest mid range thrower but balls 25+ yards down field, he was much more accurate. Another advantage Danny had was pocket awareness. He didn't hold the ball as long as Burrow does, thus preventing sacks and fumbles.
In a pretty close call, I give Etling the edge RIGHT NOW. I definitely like Burrow don't get me wrong. He has a MOXY about him that is something coaches would love to have. I am glad he is our quarterback! I would love to see how dangerous he would make our team if he were able to connect on more down field throws. I would also like to note that his receivers have dropped several passes this year affecting his completion %

I thought it was readily apparent that Burrow was much more talented than Etling. Not to take anything away from Etling but they're on two different levels.

Yes, but I didn't think that talent had manifested itself on the field yet (when the debate was happening). What good is a bunch of talent if you can't produce at a higher level?

As the season has worn on, I can't help but wonder how much Canada could have squeezed out of Burrow last year. Canada made playing QB pretty easy for Etling. Surely he could have done the same and more for Burrow.

I'm taking Burrow over Etling if I'm drafting a QB due to his talent, but it's not terribly easy to explain away his lack of production.

They both have struggles feeling pressure in the pocket, but Burrow has the edge there, for sure.

Etling used to step run into the pressure instead of moving up in the pocket, which pissed me off to no end

Burrow just seems to not feel it at times at all

Etlilng's butthole was puckered up tight enough to produce a diamond when he played Bama. I hope Burrow doesn't follow suit

I thought Etling looked fine last year against Bama from that regard. The year before he was a deer in headlights. But so was our gameplan

Danny Etling’s senior year was 16 TD and only 2 interceptions.

That is really darn efficient.

Burrow looks for the big play down the field and is not afraid to throw it in the middle deep while being safe. I just wish someone else, with Jefferson, can step up in the WR department.

That game last year could have been totally different had he connected on some throws to Chark. Blame probably is 50/50 there.

His pre-snap reads have been pretty good/great this year, so I can't wrap my head around the times he completely misses the pressure. Most of the time they're getting to him with blitzes. It would be more understandable if they're getting to him sending 3/4, as that's not something you can see at the snap.

Nope not yet.

Etling is on the Patriots practice squad. I think

J/k I an all Burrow now. Just his ability to change the play at the line is all I needed to see and hell that was in the first game of the season.

1-From the first snaps Burrow took, he was asked to do way more than Etling ever had. Im talking risky throws downfield, to the sideline, and in the middle of the field.

2-Offensive line has not been able to become cohesive due to injuries, this had led to an abnormal amount of throwaways, pressure & sacks

3- you mention the WRs & the drops. I think we are up to 12.

4- the schedule has been brutal.

I dont think the running game is to blame. Offensive line & WR have been the biggest issue.

Less attempts is a big reason as to why Etling looks better with regard to the stats you've shown.

ETA: per game

Etling has a cult following on here that is very strange. Dude was the definition of average.

I don’t care about his two interceptions or rating. He was average AT BEST

Etling was a 57% passer in SEC last year

Burrow is at 54% this year.

but if you take away his running ability, and compare Burrow's first year with Etling's second, then Etling is better.
