His players at Ole Miss absolutly gave up on him. Ripping your shirt off and going Hulk on your players will only have a short term affect. His and Miles ego will never work.

Miles has no room for error here. This will be interesting to watch. If he chooses the wrong guy and things go south again, watch out.

In other words, he wants to be DC here. No thanks
Another poster had a good point about "associate head coach" or "assistant head coach" or "assistant to the regional manager". maybe he'd go for that?

According to a lot of the dumbass coaches on this board, he would be a bad hire.

Some of the posters on this board still think Dinardo was a "good" hire.

First of all,if Chavis is coming, I'd think he has the most say so on the incoming OL coach. As an excellent DC in the SEC, he must have a handle on th best DL line coaches around and available.
Second, if O has character issues, I'd also think LSU has many spies who can speak to Saint's people and get the skinny on his alleged drinking, temperament, etc. If he is a hot potato, too hot to handle, he should be passed over. He could do more harm than good.

Please don't believe Miles is locked up in his closet dealing with some dark side ego problem. His issue will be, is O able to be handled without disrupting the organization, is he a good OL, is he compatible with the other coaches (especially the incoming DC), and is he just looking for a stepping stone?

When these issues are covered, there are more to be answered which I'll leave to the experts to handle. Beyond those ideas is above my pay grade.

I do not disagree with anything you have said, but I would ask one question, "Did Petey run him off from USC or did he leave volunatrily?" I think we know the answer. He might not have been the best HC in the history of college football but he would be a great recruiter and perhaps D-line coach.

the saints d-line showed no improvement because grant and smith's fat asses are not listening to some guy who just got fired from ole miss 1 season after they received big contracts. that's the nfl for you. his lack of success with the saints does not reflect at all on whether his tenure at LSU would be successful or not.

I think thats the main reason coach O wants to come back to college, and he would probably come to LSU to do the same thing he is doing with the saints. but Miles won't hire him.

I think most of us arguing the same point but from different angles. Most seem to want him as DL coach/recruiting coordinator but not as DC.

Unfortunately, there are many questions to be answered before hiring him as a defensive assistant:

1. Is he willing to take a lateral move?
2. Could he and LM get along?
3. Who will the DC be?
4. Will that DC want O as his dl coach? The new DC (if there is a new DC) may have his own dl coach to bring on board.

It would be difficult for Les to hire a dl coach before naming a DC, as a selling point for a quality DC is the ability to bring his own guys.

I still think he would be a great hire. He has 4 great qualities...experience (USC, Ole Miss, Saints), great recruiter (look what Houston did with his players this year), intensity (up your arse if you do something wrong) and a passion for Louisiana (born and raised here, actually played at LSU and his family wants to stay here).

All good reasons to hire Yaw Yaw, but Miles should at the very least interview him ASAP. But, will the Northern Yankee Ohio version of Hudson "Curley" H do the sane thing or just sit back and let Tennessee or some other school beat LSU to the punch?..........

What job would Orgeron like at LSU?

Defensive coordinator?

Absolutely not. The man is a barbaric, dense lunatic. Yes, he can recruit, but he was a horrendous tactical coach at Ole Miss. Additionally, he is certifiably nuts, as evidenced by the fact that he repeatedly took his shirt off in Ole Miss meetings to "challenge the manhood of his team." Yeah, that was effective.

The guy might have a legitimate learning disability.

No.

Didn't Carl Dunbar have this title when he was the D-Line coach? I could see Orgeron going for this.

Okay----I really don't know who out there would be the best DC. I have read neg. on Chavis and the O and Tubby coming to LSU is a joke in my opinion. So someone please tell me who would be the best hire. I have really become confused.!!!

Coach O has this great rep as a recruiter, but at S. Cal it was the program selling itself, & Pete Carroll. He drew attention out there because of his cajun blood & temperment. At O.Miss, he was dancing all round probation with his recruiting techniques AND he went above & beyond in using negative recruiting against LSU. As a coach at Miami, granted yrs ago, he was arrested for at least 2 bar fites, one here in BR & was on probation at Miami for over a yr. Coach Miles knows all about Coach O & will never hire him. It has nothing to do with any ego.
