They would have given it up for that. But you said you would have to have something more if you ever would consider giving it up.

No one had as much ferocity as you did.

So LSU selling the first "Out" ball for $500+ (probably going to reach $1000+), but offering this guy a team signed ball for the 1st pitch ball is less greedy than me and a couple others saying they would have not taken that offer?

You are full of it.

No, I agreed with Fiarhope, I would have given it up for a mention in the HoF.

Just confirms how pathetic some of you are.

I would want to give that ball to LSU and enjoy the satisfaction I would have knowing that I caught it and donated it back to the university that I love so much, not try to act like a bitch and negotiate what I might be able to get for it.

The guy who caught the ball turned down their first offer (Skip's signed ball). So does this make him greedy, a douchebag?

He went up to the concourse and talked to the guys, so he may have gotten something else he didn't mention, like his name in the HoF with the ball.

Like I said in my first post, I probably wouldn't have even considered giving it up. I wouldn't have sold it like LSU is doing with the 1st Out Ball. I would have put it up on loan to the HoF like a bunch of stuff in Andonie Museum is on loan.

I would have held out until they agreed to put a picture of me in the hall of fame. I mean yea its the first ball ever used, but he's also historic in the sense that he's the first person to ever catch a foul ball in the new Alex Box.

No, I'm sure like most LSU fans he has an assload of Skip Bertman autographs already. At least I do.

And everytime he signs it "Skip But." The man's too lazy to finish his signature!

When I started this topic, I didn't know about the auction for the 1st Out Ball.

Now I see that LSU doesn't value that ball very much, I would have not given the ball up at all.

It would be sitting in my LSU room right now.

These are two different balls. The first out was a SO, the first pitch was the fouled ball.

i would eventually give it up but there would be more than just a team signed ball. I would see just how bad they really want that baseball. I wouldnt want money but would defiantly want some cool shite and maybe some free tickets

i would have given it up only if my name would have been on the side of it saying i caught it and gave it back to put in the hall of fame.

I love the internet. Only on the internet can somebody be "man" enough to be anonymous and talk real big and say he would do one thing when he knows damn well he would do the opposite.

I bet you're the kind of person that will argue the price of a bag of chips at a grocery store because it was rung up being 25 cents more than what it was marked on the shelf.

I would give them the ball only after they renamed the stadium after me.

Seriously, I don't have a problem with negotiating for cool memorabilia. Doesn't make you less of an LSU fan to want a bat or a jersey.

I would have bartered for something better than a Skip signed ball. Its baseball tradition, a ball goes into the stand and its the guys ball. The athletic department has more money than god, of course they just tried to bully him into giving into them. If the event is important enough than i think that you should consider giving the ball back to the team, but its part of what makes baseball special. Its especially not greedy because antique tiger wants to hold onto the ball just for collecting sake, he doesn't want to sell it. I mean its not a charity organization we are talking about, its freaking money rich athletic department, they can shell out some good stuff for the ball.

I would only give them the ball if they wrote out a check to me for $50,000, re-named the street after my family, promised a job to any of my kids when they graduate college, and picked up the rest of my mortgage.

They didn't bully him, the guy from LSU told him many times, "You don't have to give it up, but Skip would like to have the all!"

He got 2 one autographed by Skip and one by the whole taem. The ball is a part of new box history...I'd gladly give it up.

totally new act of unselfishness that I respect beyond belief

a kid had leon landry's first HR (of the season) ball, he came up to me and asked if leon would like it (I am in the little alley way next to the dugout to our storage room), since it was his first this season, an event manager was standing with me and said he would see

the kid asked for absolutely nothing in return, we offered to see if he wanted him to sign the HR ball, he said no, it's his ball, event manager said that well get you something, team came back in, and he got leon over and he signed him a ball

you have to respect that
