Would anyone be surprised if we come out running?

With all the hoopla around the "new offense" and the weird opinions I'm hearing that supposedly we have no rushing attack, would anyone be surprised to see LSU come out running right at Texas? I like passing as much as the next guy but some 7 and 8 yard gashing runs to set the tone early would be a beautiful thing.

Yes. And I would be very frustrated.

So would a methodical 7-9 play touchdown drive littered with 3-7 yard pass plays and the occasional draw/read option followed by a 3-out.

Ball game.

The "tone" needs to be set by our Defense putting consistent big hits on Ehlinger

I think we can set the stage either way. Knowing that we have an 'either way' is fabulous...

Considering the texas d-line this is very possible.

Not at all, I don't think they have the horses to run with us. Clyde will wear them down as the game goes on, that guy never goes down. Emery or Davis will break a big one to seal the game.

I think TX playing well against LA Tech's run was play calling. They ran a lot of draws that were delayed but the dline crashed every time. The Oline looked out matched.

I think we run well on them. We didnt need to run against GSU but we had 3.8 yards per carry. CEH had 5 ypc.

I would get a nice kick if after the show the offense put on last week, we start the game in I formation running up the middle

Depends on what Texas comes out in. If they are going to send the house early to try and throw off Burrow then I would rather see screens or swing passes to catch them out of position. If they are playing with 4-5 in the box and only sending edge pressure then you run them into the box. What's best about having someone actually able to run the offense is the gameplan going in is not as important as the what the defense is showing at the snap. No more running into a brick wall no matter the team or situation.

I honestly think Burrow is gonna have a big day running the ball. We basically duplicated our Spring game...I.E....not having the QB take part in the running game. We have ALOT left in the playbook IMO. As exciting as the offense looked...as Burrow and O said...we didn’t show very much of the offense...which is scary for UT.

Our LSU Tigers will take what is given and take some things that are not given. If we are given the run we will capitalize on the run, but I do not see us abandoning the pass.

since we are on the road and the crowd will be amped it would not surprise me but I think we will try to shut them up with a quick score

It depends on what looks Texas gives defensively early on. Georgia Southern came out mostly in base 4-3 anticipating a run heavy approach from the Tigers & got smoked by the pass because of this.

If Texas comes in nickel/dime package or decides to play some cover 2, it will provide opportunities for the offense to run on them. What is great about the new offensive scheme is that there are built in mechanisms to audible to run or pass based off what look the defense is in. Whatever defense the Longhorns go to, Burrow & the offense has a counter to that look. This is why Texas is screwed but they don't even know it yet.

One last thing, after watching the game against Georgia Southern again, there was no game planning to attack specific matchups against their defenders. Brady & E just ran their basic offense & said, ok stop it which GSU couldn't do. I expect that to change this week & certain defenders on the Texas defense will be exploited based on their weaknesses.

If Brady learned anything from Sean Payton, this is something Payton loves to try to do on the road.

I hope we get the ball first. Quick scoring drive then our defense has a 3 and out and Stingley takes one to the house...5 min in 14-0

Those are excellent counters to the blitz. You also have to take your deep shots as well against the blitz against coverages that have no safety help over the top. All aggressive offenses trust their receivers to win one on one matchups on the outside.

Yeah, it would be nice to get the crowd completely out of it early while putting Longhorns totally on their heels going forward. Apply pressure early & don't let up. All gas, full throttle.

Texas linebacker Joseph Ossai had high hopes when the defense unveiled its new third-down “cowboy” package last weekend against Louisiana Tech.

“I told you it was going to be awesome,” Ossai said Tuesday. “Wasn’t it awesome?”

The new blitz package, which utilizes eight defensive backs, was used twice in the first half when the Horns ran up a 24-0 lead. The first time, DeMarvion Overshown came flying in for a sack. The second time, linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch jumped offside and Texas went back to its base front.

The creative alignment put a majority of Texas’ fastest defensive players on the field all at once. Defensive end Malcolm Roach shifted to nose guard, Ossai and McCulloch came off the edge and eight defensive backs flew around everywhere else.

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow should expect to see that look at some point on Saturday.

If LSU sees this package while having a TE and RB on the field, I would go hurry up, not change personnel, and just play power run right at it - and not let UT substitute.
