the PP int was the right call. BEFORE PP attempted to catch the ball, or get his feet in bounds, Jones touched the ball, and had a foot out of bounds.
Before he attempts to catch the ball? PP7 stepped in front of Julio. The ball hits PP7's hands first and he immediately established possession in front of Julio
Further, I don't think Julio's foot lands out of bounds until after PP7 establishes possession

The ball was dead, and the play was over before PP ever had a shot to get any feet in bounds, or any hands on the ball.

Apparently Julio touched the ball and it magically floated in space until PP7 grabbed it from the air
Before he attempts to catch the ball
Before he attempts to catch the ball

I agree the picking up of the flag was wrong, but that ball was tipped by another defender before the ball even entered the catch-able zone of the receiver. It should have been no flag because it was technically an un-catchable ball.
how is that any different than the jessie daniels interception earlier?
The AU player was never going to catch that ball b/c Daniels caught it in front of the interference.

if you pause this at :48 in, i see JJ's hand on the ball, and his foot out of bounds, ending the play, before "the divot"

but if Jamarcus had ever learned to lead a receiver there was an open field all the way to the end zone.
LOL, Jmarc was getting hot at the end of the game and the refs screwed us, it wasnt one call, it was several calls. But about leading the receiver, just go look at his highlights.
Jmarc was one of the best qbs ive seen at LSU.

If you see his hand on the ball at :48, then you have the best eyes in the entire world
There are plenty of pics showing PP7 with possession and inbounds.
Show me a pick of Jones touching the football before PP7.
You are insane if you think he touched it before an "attempt".
The replay booth CONFIRMED the call too, which is more than just letting it stand

I dont even know if his hand is on the ball, i think it was an int, but thats why i still think auburn was the biggest hose job because of how obvious the calls were.

when you are down you're down and the ground can't cause a fumble !

exactly, im looking and i dont see jjs hands on the ball there.

Looks to me like PP7 completely boxed him out with his helmet and shoulder pads.
The ball hit PP7's hands first and he established possession immediately with his foot on the ground

That picture really shows you how bad of a decision that was to try to get that ball to Jones.
And how lucky Bama was that it was called incomplete.

Whats interesting is my example (1989 LSU vs UF) where Dick Burleson blew the call (adding 1 second) and that he had influence in the PP7 interception.
Oh, I'm gonna call his old arse out soon......

There has been one single call that cost LSU a national title. At Tennessee in 1959, Cannon got the ball across the goal line on a 2-point conversion but it was not called that way. LSU should have won 15-14 which would have had LSU at 10-0 and winning the AP NC that year as it was named before bowl games in those days.
That single blown call in 1959 in Knoxville is the worst ever called against LSU because it cost us a NC.

8-0; still had Miss St. and the greenies (was fairly close 14-6)!
Is there picture of it? I always recall my dad crying about this also, I was 3!
I agree this would have been a huge difference being back to back MNC's and vaulted us into elite status with the other elite football schools!

I have never liked Saban but after Rohan was hit out of bounds twice , sabin did not let him get up he sent him to the hospital , it scared the refs and they had to do right and that made Lsu the winner !

had ritter actually said that i could see why it became a theory, but he didnt, all he said was "incomplete pass", with no explanation as to why.
but it would still be bullshite because julio never even came close to that ball. look at patricks hands here, theyre fully extended, palms flat. the brown blur in front of them is the ball, he has julio completely blocked out.
and from behind you can see that julio really isnt even as close as he seems. the red arrow is the ball. you can see julios right elbow giving you an idea where his hand might be, but it never gets close because patrick is pushing him away with his left shoulder.
these next two frames show patrick catching the ball, with julio still in bounds and patrick blocking both of his hands
its blurry but heres a close up of that second pic. look at julios wrist bands. his right forearm is almost completely vertical because patrick is pushing him away and his left is clearly blocked by patricks left.
this shows the moment julio actually steps out, and it might seem like his right hand could maybe somehow perhaps be touching the back of the ball...
but in reality the ball is about a foot away. again, look at julios elbow and the angle of his forearm. the pic just before this one show julios hands are in front of the left side of patricks helmet. patricks arms are extended, julio is not even close to the ball.
slow motion gfycats...
from the front
from the back
