He is the coach. His job is to make those decisions no matter what happens on the field. You are right, if they make the play then he doesn't have to make the decision. They didn't make the play so then it goes to him to make a decision. He made a decision and it backfired.

Yeah it did. But who's to say any other decision would've resulted in a better outcome? His PLAYERS put him in a messed up situation, but HE will be blamed for the loss. I hardly find that fair, and I hardly believe that to be indicative of how good of a coach he is. And to sit here and say its "the worst coaching decision of the year" after nearly being out the inning with no damage done, well that is just laughable.

if he takes him out and Gervase gives up a bomb then it would be why did he take him out. Second guessing can be done in every game

If you’ve read my first post here I put the blame on Morgan, Money, and Jay. They have to be better and make the plays/pitches. But he also has to put his team in the best chance to win. Even after the 3 run homer, Jay should have gone to the next guy and possibly saved a run… would have been kind of important there at the end don’t you think?

No one would have questioned pulling Money after what happened and him struggling. Going to Gervase to try and salvage a tie game or even a 3 run game would have made sense. Leaving Money in to give up 6 was not smart. There’s not real justification for it especially when Gervase was ready to go already.

most coaches try to save arms at this point in the first game of a 3 game series

He was facing a guy he had struck out twice that got a hit then next pitch was a 3 run bomb...against a hitter that may have had one on the season

You were at the game right? You remember how that 6 run scored? (Hint: You shouldn't be surprised)

I don't think anyone would be saying why did he take Money out who was paying attention. His fastball velocity was down and his curveball had little bite and was staying up and over the plate. The ball hit to Morgan was an off speed over the plate and so was the homer. Just stating what happened. He made the decision and then you live with it. That's why he gets paid to make those decisions.

To be clear, I am nowhere near the person who is giving up on a coach who is halfway through his first season with the team. I like Jay and think he will be great here.

There were no men on base prior to anything else happening. Really good opportunity to get a reliever in for a reset. So even if you think leaving him in after the two runs was fine, after the HR was downright mismanagement.

No, but I think even after the bomb he should've been out of the inning... twice. Making that ROUTINE play would've made a difference there at the end don't ya think?

I didn’t post this to trash coach JJ. I think he will lead us to Omaha many times. I am saying he made a mistake. We all make mistakes. Clearly Money was tiring and he was frustrated. Was losing his composure. And when hitters face a pitcher for the third time and he is starting to lose it, guess what happens? Todd Walker talked about it even. The defense made mistakes and coach made a mistake not bringing in Gervase. He has really good stuff. It would have given us the best chance to get out of the inning. Not saying he would have succeeded, but I believe it would have been the best thing to do. Only one game. Let’s win today!
