Student Section also had a giant sheet that said

tigErs
....Spank
...sPurrier's
johNson

SS went bonkers...it was before piped in music ruined the pregame atmosphere. Fans used to get so self hyped before the game that I couldn't hear the band playing "Hold That Tiger" (not a single note) until the 2nd stanza

Those days are gone for good now

We were down by the wall and saw it. I swear it was like a movie because you could see it all happening from afar. The sign guys had no clue as the LSU guys came up and snatched it and then took off. We all still talk about it. Definitely a moment to remember from LSU football.

It reminds me of this scene...

Brings back some memories. I was there in the student section also. My second year as an LSU student. I remember the lines hours before the student section gates opened and the student section being completely packed 30 minutes after it opened. There were barely any other people in the stands at that point - except for a few wanderers and a group of Florida fans. I was not near the edge where this incident happened - I remember being kinda in the middle. But a lot of us saw the sign across the stadium and 20 minutes later these two guys were just on the outside of the packed student section unrolling this thing. I remember one guy sneaking up behind them and grabbing it and before they could get to him he threw it into the student section and it was ripped to shreds within seconds it seemed. It definitely lit a fire in the student section.

So I was part of the initial duo that stole the sign.

Thank you for your service, SIR!

Florida was warming up by the north endzone for some stupid reason, I yell at the top of my lungs "Spurrier, you suck" and he actually looked up at the student section. That’s how empty the stadium really was.

I remember it happening too. Man it ignited our student section too. That 97 crowd against Florida was something to behold. Still my favorite Tiger Stadium game.

I had dinner with JP in NJ 10y ago after one of these threads
Good morning Tiger Fans!! I greatly enjoyed reading this thread yesterday, as my wife was driving us through Arkansas en route home from Omaha! I don't think I've logged-on TD in ~4.5 years but when nickLSU linked me this thread, I thought I'd take a stab at guessing my old password. And I figured it out somehow.

Reading that our exploits nearly 28 years ago were so fondly recalled by some here, and even charged-up the crowd on that EPIC evening, truly makes me smile. The deed HAD to be executed, and done so with precision. I recalled telling Nick as I slapped his back "let's do this; where the f#ck do they think they are? Vanderbilt?"

Lawnwranglers, I do recall our dinner a decade or more ago in Parsippany NJ. And a cigar bar on a separate occasion, I think.

If y'all give me a bit, I'll dig up a recollection I wrote up years ago and paste it on here.

Guck the Fators,
JP

This 100% had an impact on the crowd which obviously had an impact on the game. I have friends that weren't in the stadium yet that to this day are still disappointed that they missed it.
