WHY do so many people here utterly ignore that BK’s contract wasn’t made by SW in a vacuum?? An entire Board and others had to agree to it as well.
B/c they would have to acknowledge that Verge was on that search committee, and that doesn't look good moving forward.

Yeah, that's why Kansas got the Death Penalty for their coach being caught on a wire tap paying the player Will Wade allegedly made an offer on. Oh, wait? Kansas didn't get the death penalty!? They didn't fire their coach!? They didn't even get sanctioned!?
In what possible way could any sanctions have been worse than the results of LSU firing Will Wade? I would have preferred the Death Penalty over watching the completely atrocious, hopeless, feckless, fightless teams we've fielded for the past 3 seasons. No sanctions that the NCAA would have throne at us (ie ZERO as evidenced by their treatment of Kansas) would have been even half as debilitating as the end result of firing Will Wade.

Isn't it pretty proven that we (especially the basketball program) lacked adequate funds to utilize the transfer portal?
There's no way to prove that. This isn't like the NFL or NBA where there are employment contracts reported to the leagues. NIL figures are all totally speculative. No one really knows for certain how much is being spent.
For a program that purportedly had "no money", LSU has often ranked fairly high in the transfer rankings
2022 - 11th
2023 - 16th
2024 - 67th BUT No. 16 in HS recruiting rankings.
The "lack of money" excuse was just cover that, clearly, many LSU fans gobbled up without hesitation, to (a) "justify" the horrible results and (b) "justify" the decision last season to keep the HC with the worst 3 year record in the league.
McMahon has NEVER figured out how he wants to construct a roster or, if he can't construct it as planned, adjust his style to fit his roster.

You have NO idea what transpired at A&M. You do not know the people that were involved in that contract either. People thinking that one man made all these decisions by himself are just asinine. $75 million of other people’s money and Woodward did that by himself.
He didn’t hire Kelly by himself either but that won’t stop the idiots on here for putting all the blame on him either.

Kelly was without question checked out
BK style of coaching has always been the same… he ain’t here no more simply because we aren’t going to the playoffs… no other reason… he would still be here “checked out” if we only had two losses right now

Wade did not get in trouble for the wire tap. Self was not caught, with evidence, of paying players. Wade was. Real simple.

quote:I know but all reporting has indicated that. Hell, even Woodward's comments about "investing into the program" indicated that. It's a pretty commonly known thing that the roster this year is about 8x more expensive as the last 3 years combined.

quote:But alot of those schools ahead of us had both top HS and top transfer classes. CBB is different in the sense that the top guys are SIGNIFCANTLY more expensive than the above average guys. LSU basketball couldn't dream of getting a Haulcey + Cooley + Delane + everything else level class.

Regardless, MM has to show it this year. I am a huge Wade guy and was dissapointed with how that worked out. MM was a good hire at the time. It hasn't worked out. Why it hasn't? I'm not sure. I don't know if it's recruiting or if he's just a horrendous coach. I don't think you can discount that every school in the conference started investing heavily in the sport right around the Wade departure, either. The SEC is, by far, the best conference in America top to bottom.
I think, barring multiple catastrophic injuries, this is the year you fully judge him on. Tournament? He stays. No tournament? He goes. That simple.

To completely ruin men’s basketball and football as quickly as he did is astounding.
More astounding is this type of retarded hyperbole. The FB is not “ruined” FFS. At worst it will be 6-6 which is the record before Kelly got here. His first 2 seasons lead to an SECCG and Heisman winner. Disappointing maybe that the 2023 offense didn’t have a defense and finished 9-3. Last year and this didn’t seem to click but it’s far from disaster.

History won’t be kind to Woodward imo. Put LSU and A&M programs in the same spot by offering massive guaranteed contracts to dinosaurs.
Holy 20/20 hindsight
Fisher won an NC 4 years before going to A&M. Kelly was 44-6 and made 2 playoffs in his last 4 years at ND. Neither had anything close to a losing record, Kelly has the 3rd best record in the Sec at LSU. They were fired for not winning at a higher level. Woodward was not paying more than other schools if anything history will show it as an era of outsized expectations.

Frick that fat arse Woodward. I hate how people say he’s a big game hunter and can get the big name coach. It’s easy when you over pay with other peoples money and let agents rip you off.

Landry actually has changed the makeup of the BOS significantly since then.
