Woodard left A&M before the next AD increased the contract and increased the annual payment. In fact, it was the next A.D. that added four years to the contract and paid him more per year.

The Jimbo firing would have been pennies compared to what they paid based on Woodward's contract. The next AD gave him the raise and extension.

That’s not true. The buyout provision, which effectively made it a fully guaranteed contract, was in the original contract. An extension after the school’s best season in decades is not what created the problem, it was the original buyout language Scott gave him - that Ross inherited.

Woodward only gives extensions after championships. That's pretty well documented

Go ask the UW board about Lorenzo Romar’s extension that Scott gave. They never made the tournament again after Scott extended.

Geniuses like you are the reason we have a governor hiring the football coach and well soon have no AD in addition to no coach or school president

Woodward is now responsible for writing the two worst college football contracts in history that, when it's all said and done, will cost LSU and Texas A&M almost $130M to get rid of its football HCs.

How the frick is Woodward responsible for A&M buying Jimbo out??? That’s how we know, you don’t know what the frick you’re talking about.

Threads like this don't help the situation.
Lazer focusing on Woodward takes away from the fact that several people in and around the Ath Dept hierarchy were duped by Kelly. As far as Jimbo is concerned, his replacement reworked the Jimbo contract, not Woodward

I remember Jimbo was 5-6 his last season at FSU. Jimbo was washed then and some folks were saying it in the FSU media. But Woody still signed him. Woody ain’t shite.

The sports world didn’t view it that way at the time. Jimbo to A&M was lauded as a massive hire for the school, “put the SEC on notice” etc.

For Jimbo and Kelly, Woodward only negotiated and offered the contracts the BOR and BOS at A&M and LSU allowed him to offer, then subsequently approved.

Hindsight is 20/20, but at the time both of these hires were huge.

I totally agree. Woodward gave the insane $75M fully guaranteed contract to Jimbo. He's gotten to be an expert on spending other people's money and the colleges are left to pick up the pieces!

So. Who is gonna fund LSU athletic programs when Landry pulls stunts like this?

Woodward got 2 coaches; Jimbo would not have lasted much longer as the program was spiraling to mediocrity and Kelly who insiders were just waiting on an excuse to fire. Any basic vetting would have sounded the alarm that these were not good long term hires and the money thrown at them.

It doesn't matter who pays for it. The problem is no one would have to pay, if Woodward had negotiated a much better contract!
