quote:Have you ever watched a woman's basketball game? I use to watch a few games back when we were going to final fours consistently, but even then they weren't selling out the PMAC. Also, compared with women's gymnastics, it's a much more difficult product to watch for most people because even the best players are low skilled.
Look at gymnastics...packed house. I don’t see why that wouldn’t translate to BB alao
We've seen that women can be great at gymnastics, but we have not seen them be great as basketball players. The skill level is just too low compared to other basketball that sometimes it's hard to watch, although everyone loves a winner. It's a lot easier to watch gymnastics and think it's a decent product. It's a lot harder to do that for women's basketball.

Gymnastics is also only 5-6 meets per year typically, once every other week, and only on Friday nights. There are limited opportunities to watch them, and they are on Friday evenings where kids don’t have to wake up for school the next day.
And they are usually competing against another SEC team or a big name team from across the country.
Wbb played 17 home games in 2019, primarily on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. That’s far more opportunities, mostly coming on school nights during the week or Sunday afternoons when people have church or make other family plans.
And prior to conference play they are playing teams like Nicholls, McNeese, Arkansas Little Rock, etc.
The strength of schedule may change, but the frequency of games and days they are played won’t very much.

While you are correct, some of these folks aren't taking into consideration that Woody has access to the financial books. He knows the potential of the program and knows how much of a financial risk we can afford. He's not going to blindly throw a number at anyone just to get them here. Even if it doesn't make sense in a basketball revenue perspective, it will make sense from an overall perspective.
Exactly! It's still funny to me all these folks trying to wax poetic about what LSU should and should not spend money on.
Let WOODOWARD and his people worry about that. All y'all need to worry about is that we have good, quality, championship level programs, period.

Man, please.
Stop with that tired argument. The women players are highly skilled at this point. They're not as ATHLETIC as men, and never will be. But skill-wise, it's a quality game on the professional and Division one collegiate level. Y'all couch potatoes kill me with that "it's difficult to watch", argument.
Based on the sellouts they have for the NCAA final four, it's clearly not "difficult to watch" for real basketball fans. THIS, is why people are excited about the Mulkey hire. They remember what it was like when were were consistently winning SEC titles and making final fours, and they hungry to get back to that. The Mulkey hire will be a homerun for the LSU athletic department.

If you can hire a top 2 coach in any sport that wants to come to LSU, you make it happen. She's also a huge personality that'll be great for a school that desperately needs PR help.
Why pay an exorbitant amount for PR when the university could straighten up their poor image by actually being a university again rather than being little more than a minor league team for professional sports.
Down vote away, you shallow frickers who have never walked through the Quad as a student.

I want LSU to be good at everything, but I don’t want LSU football paying a head coach $15M per year like I don’t want women’s basketball paying $3M per year. It’s all proportional to what the sport generates, which of, women’s basketball generates no profit.
You people who claim to love LSU but always bring money into it. It’s a business but not the kind small thinkers are accustomed to.
The KM hire will bring national attention. That means ad and local economy revenue. Over time, she may produce superstar professional athletes who contribute to the university. It’s a long term play and I must say I am very impressed Woodward pulled this off

I haven’t watched a single WBB game since the last final 4 and can’t name a single player except Simone Augustus.
But I’ll be watching with CKM. Now multiply that sentiment by about 100,000 and you’ve got your answer.

I feel the same way, I’ll watch and support. Never have, but this is positive and has no violations or harassment etc. attached to it. I think a lot of people are saying the same thing
